Worst Crashes/Accidents/Failures etc on E-bike: Bring pics

Please don't proliferate misinformation. You're increasing your friend's risk of harm by recommending against cycling, because lack of exercise is much more dangerous to one's health than cycling.

Statistically, cycling is quite a bit safer than urban walking and much safer than motorcycling. I'm not sure that generalizations about bicycles extend to the rinky--dink motorcycles around here, but to the extent we ride like pedal cyclists, at pedal cyclist speeds, we're pretty darned safe. Actually pedaling helps safety too, by increasing blood flow and turning your brain on.

That's a dumbed-down article, but it has useful data in it. I recommend reading analysis by Ken Kifer and/or Exponent (formerly Failure Analysis) for more detailed data.

Chalo - Totally with you on the health benefit's :).

However, as a counter about the risks involved how about the terminology/access and phycology of a bicycle crash/accident/failure.
- Toppling over on a bicycle is much more frequent than on a motorbike even though it is minor, pedantically speaking it is an accident and guys with clip-ons not properly removed for example have and can do damage as bicycle gear doesn't generally involve boots/knee/hip/elbow/shoulder protection although both have noggin protection... of varying levels :).
- More people own bicycle than motorbikes so statistically speaking bicycle crash/accident/failure are likely to happen more frequently.
- Mentally, the main cause of bicycle crash/accident/failure is treating your bicycle as a toy and not giving enough respect to it as a fast, metal jungle gym with any Tom, Dick or Harry attemping tricks or stunts or speed runs (have you done a wheelie on a bicycle :) ?). People who own motorbikes are aware of the machine as a vehicle and it's only the peolpe of 'exuberant' character or stupidity than treat them as toys.

Still, cycling is fun, as is motorcycling. Were of the same kin, some like roads, some like muddy off beaten tracks etc... Two wheeled adrenaline keeps both parties alert. We all hurt ourselves, generally with only ourselves to blame (be honest, don't hide the shame :) ). Other times we both suffer from poor road surfaces, FOD, mech failure, punctures and drivers not seeing us, too many similarities to count :).

Anyway, more pictures and stories of tomfoolery and things to be brought back to the forefont of our minds, 'it sodding hurts, don't want to end up like that!'

Here's a picture of a KFF moment during an 18650 pack build. The pack is quite impressive and the builder does clean work. He's quite lucid about what caused the accident in his build thread.

We should heed his advice when building packs and avoid the same mistake. It can happen to the best; be careful!! Read more here: https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=85489

Plugged in 80v of lipos reverse polarity into my controller discharged hundreds of amps and blew the SB50 tabs into molten metal...which made its way down my shorts vaporized my public hair and burned me. But it wasn't severe and just missed the equipment. Plus the controller still works. So not a big deal.

Thanks for NOT bringing those pics

It's been a while so I found a couple other fails to bring to this thread:

Methods towed behind an ebike on his longboard; railroad tracks took him down:
