Hi power inverter for Nissan leaf motor. Dyno's 302.3hp p15

@zombees, yep. Quality torque cell on the coupling bushing is helpful in this regard but is probably outside the normal for garage tools. Also machine bonding both dynno and your car chassis and grounded.

Getting close to done under the hood.

Spent over 15hr on it Friday trying to make it safer and more splash proof.

Has anyone seen covers sold for contactors? You would think something simple like a spray paint lid would be commonly sold and you just pop it off when needed....

Also got a sweet dash cam mirror form Amazon its on sale for $69 CDN.

Will be handy for better videos, backing up, interactions with crooked cops etc.

(do not dyno on slicks/bias play race tires! They can chunk!)

Don't do it on drag radials either. Ask me how I know

Yeah we had a guy here on the island dyno testing his drag turbo hyabusa over and over on a slick it exploded and smacked I'm in the back throwing him forward injuring his back, head and breaking 3 ribs.

Dyno pulls for motorcycles on road racing slicks also seem to consume the tire amazingly fast.

Dyna-packs like you're using are super precise and take a lot of the drama out of what can go wrong in a dyno pull (car running off the roller etc). I had a lot of issues getting my old Honda Insight to get the rollers turning on a dyna-pack. I think it required rev-limiter clutch slipping to get it rolling. The sweep rate should be adjustable.

Special thanks to Luke for Crashing his ICE race car with these in the trunk on his was home from getting them installed!

I will put them to good use in your honer! ;)

Aligned the front and rear wheels. Even got the steering wheel strait. Got the front wheels to about -.8 deg Camber (were -3.5 deg).
Rebuilt the controller and made a box for the contactors to make it safer and keep water out.
Put the 800a genuine igbts in with better thermal paste, arctic mx4 I think its called will look later. Put the temp sensors into the ends of the igbts into little holes drilled into the heat sink of the IGBTs them selfs like normal but this time I put some Arctic mx4 on the tips of the sensors to get them to sense the heat faster.

Did a few runs and it seems great. Got up this morning and drove to mission and it all runs and handles better then ever.... Waiting to see if they call the race due to rain!

So excited Arlin!!!

25min left to know if you will be racing tonight!!!

May your runs be swift and graceful, Im so glad those old slicks are getting used for EV power now!

Everything went amazing the best run was a 12.6 at 117 mph I charged off batteries that were charged at home with solar power. And Discovery channel filmed it all. So excited for all this. I tried everything I could for better 60" times but 2.2-2.3 is all I can get ATM. Soon I will try more things at home the car ran amazing all day I drove it 110km got there charged it up raced all night while topping up from my own Energy then drove 110 km home again.
The 800a igbts are working great I turned the power up 20 phase amps at a time from 750-770-790 then I ran out of charge and it was time to pack up so I could catch the 10:45 ferry (last one) home so I can look after my 9mo son as I promised the wife I would at 8am..
. I tuned out a surge by lowering the Inductance and I played with the acceleration limiter to try to keep it from spinning which helps but I don't have enough data yet...
Last run I blew a Supra out of the water! Made me feel so good.... Oh and I beat a BMW M5! It's all on video for discovery channel.

So proud of you Arlin!! Hero of future hotroding!!

Every time out I beet the car I was against! What are the odds... Well. Considering I was in the Sport Compact class I was one of the fastest if not the fastest SC car there lol.

Great races! Congratulations on kicking ass!!!

arlo that's AMAZING. never knew that sub 3s times with FRONT WHEEL DRIVE only are possible!!
imagine what you could do with 4WD!? maybe beat tesla 100d in ludicrous mode?
Thanks its been a long road but well worth it.

If your talking 60' times 1.4s is possible!!! I will be working on learning to launch better I think there is some tricks and now that I am running the 800a IGBTs and slicks that hook better I think when I sort it all out 1.9s 60' times are possible.

I can't seem to get below 2s yet, but I have 400lbs of battery just in front of the rear wheels.

I do have someone with multiple cells for testing eh Luke? ;) That eventualy I will be making a pack to go upfront with higher C rated stuff so I don't need to carry as much weight or bulk down the track. Letting me drop the rear pack out for 1/4 mile stuff.

Its been a fun project on a very tight budget.

Fantastic work Arlo! with a 1.9 60' you'll be easily dipping into the 11's. That's not just a fast EV - that's a fast street car of any sort!

I didn't see it on the video clips, are you managing to do a decent burnout? The more race orientated the rubber, the greater the importance of the skid. Are there any compatible aftermarket LSD's for the leaf case?

If you're not able to do a decent two wheel burnout for whatever reason then driving around the water box can also make a very big difference.

How much more do you think the leaf drivetrain has in it? I'd be fascinated to see if you can pick up appreciable mph with a stiffer battery for instance. All new ground with little precedent!

The first burnout started with the passenger side then the drivers lit up as well.

Burnouts are not a problem. The launch is tricky. This time out what I would do is turn regen up most of the way then that reduces the max torque and I pin the throttle with the brake pushed very hard to preload the axles and as soon as I see the 3 yellows I let go of the brake then I reach over right away and turn up the power by turning down the regen knob..

Last time I give it just a little throttle and used the e brake to hold the car and when the 3 yellows were up I pinned the throttle while letting off the e-brake. I think this might be a better way as its not as hard on the controller.... But I need more testing on this.

There is no posi for this diff.... I have a datsun 510 wagon diff in my shop its super close but the location for the gear to bolt on is off by about 1/2 inch.

This car is mind-blowing!

Awesome what the Leaf motor is able to put out.
It must be great fun to drive that wolf in sheep's cloths and make fun of other race car drivers as they never expect that you have so much power under the hood :)

Congrates to that conversion

That certainly sounds like a good plan for getting off the line quickly without smashing things.

If you know anybody with a recent high end cellphone like a galaxy S8/Pixel etc get them down to the start line to take slomo footage of the launch. You can learn a TON about what's going on looking at the first 20 feet at high FPS. Based on that footage you can tweak your accel limits up or down or identify any issues with suspension motion or damping. Really wish I could come and crew for you!

All in time. I just wanted to make some runs and prove the car/controller....

Discovery filmed it so I bet they have some good video.

i guess this may never be aired outside us/canada, so please be so kind to put the video on youtube once you have access to it, or link the official video if possible. i would really appreciate to see it!!

Sure thing. I will find a way to make it happen.

I forgot discovery channel was out there right now.

Secured the record for fastest Street conversion in the NEDRA for 1/4 mile and I think they can add the 1/8th mile as well lol.

And by quite a margin. Way to go! You just raised the bar for the others. And with front wheel drive too, that's amazing.
