Got some rain up here yesterday. Just barely enough to wet the ground but not measurable. I guess I'm ready for some real rain as things are very dried out.

Spinning low in the Pacific will bring cooler weather after a couple of hot days.

Nate expected to make landfall near New Orleans.

I'm choking on the smoke here. On the satellite picture I can see at least 11 separate fires. The cars are all covered with ash. I can expect the wind direction to shift by maybe tomorrow, which should solve my smoke problem (and make it somebody else's).

It seems like every time they issue a red flag warning, some pyro goes out and starts a bunch of fires.

Fire season underway in Cali Land.

We could see helicopter water drops from the freeway during the Canyon Fire last week. Smoke from Canyon Fire 2 is currently stretching to the coast where we used to live. Possibly started by the same person? Near the first area of ignition but wind from the opposite direction is pushing the flames south/westward.
Not currently windy here, although this area is not completely immune to wildfires.

Smoke from the visible satellite view can be seen blowing offshore north of Catalina Island.

Just checked outside, wind gusts of maybe 10-15 mph.

The fires up here are much worse than was reported yesterday. over 1500 homes destroyed, 11 dead. Entire neighborhoods were wiped out in a few hours.
It's still snowing ashes at my place but the wind has shifted enough so there is some improvement in air quality.

We could really use a little rain...

Partly cloudy, breezy and cool. Was a fire at a recycling facility in Perris, caused by a bird nesting on a utility pole.

Heard on the news that downtown LA got some, enough to water in the Grow Power at Dodger Stadium in time for 100°F game time temps on Tuesday for game one of the World Series.

40 degree temperature swing between the daily high and low readings. After a few bites of romaine Chomper buried himself under the nearest asperegus fern bush two weeks ago and hasn't been seen or heard from since. His lizard friends are quite active during the day, and like to sun themselves on the back fence in the afternoon. Checking the weather records shows the lowest temperature ever recorded here was 18°F in December and the record high was 116°F in September, so he should feel quite at home hibernating from October through March as he would in his native Uzbekistan.
