Just got my 36v 20Ah from PIng today. I have one question:

It's going to power a 800w motor, potentially high amp draw.

2) What should I do for a fuse?
are there leds on the bms board?

The BMS on the ping packs will do some current limiting IIRC, your fuse (if you chose to use one, a lot of people dont seem to) needs to be the current limit of the controller + 50%. Your controller will also limit the maximum current you draw.

my version 3 ping has leds on the bms, they all light up when fully charged and if you let it slowly discharge you get a light show.

I was told by Ping that I need at least 20Ah to handle the load of an 800w motor. I would have loved to save some money and get a 12 or 15Ah.

How do I determine the limit of the controller?

It does have LEDs, I found out this morning, for balancing/troubleshooting.

I have a 4000 watt motor and a ping 24 volt 10 ah. all you need to do is get a watt meter and make sure you don't use too many amps. my battery does 30 amp continuous and most of the time I use about 10 amps.
when I'm cruising up a hill I keep an eye on the amps and pedal if they go too high. a 36 volt 20 ah on a skateboard? what happens when you need to bail off the board and it crashes into a curb or someones leg?

The reason why you needed 20ah is because most low end packs can only do 2C max without self-destructing quickly, and the less you hit that max, the longer it will last.

I'm almost considering reselling my 20ah 18650 pack and getting that instead.

That is a great deal on what should be a great battery. Never heard of the dealer though, so somebody needs to be a guinea pig and let us know if the vendor can be trusted. There have been too many characters involved in EV's for me to trust anyone right away. I wish ping would offer a 5c cell at a price like that.
You might have gotten away with a 15 ah pack ok, but you are going to have a better chance of having the thing last the bigger it is. You'll be pulling about 1c so that is still ideal for battery longevity.

(at least shipping returns back for exchange would be much cheaper!)

I am seriously considering getting that pack if I can get a refund from ebay/paypal but it might take a few weeks

5kg with 14 mile range would be just about perfect

This new battery actually lightens it up over the old 3x12Vx12Ah SLAs in it before. Once you jump off, it slows itself down fairly rapidly. Those EV guys make them to custom dimensions?

I wrote them, asking if they make a 36v pack--thanks for that.

I went ahead and got a 30A mini style fuse. Hopefully that will do it.
