My Trike is Faster than My Zero...

Postby Josh K. » Tue Jun 02, 2009 2:56 pm

Hi Folks,

Just ran my E trike out on the drag strip, and hit 70 MPH on 48 volts, and 500 amps, going faster than I can go on my Zero...

Here is a smoke show before the race, I was checking out my equipment before racing as fast as I could possibly go

Nice to have access to a Race track for safe closed course testing, thanks to the guys at the Portland Human power challenge. Perhaps we will see more machines at the unrestricted electric bicycle races...

Great pics of the tires smoking!!

You put 25kW into this etek?.. 70mph?

By fast calculation i guess that my goal of 70mph is still reacheable with a hub motor!.. i have like half frontal area that fight with the wind and i'll also have half power..you have.

Do you sue nromal tires?

Have you the time slip? showing 0-60ft, 0-330ft, 0-1000ft 1/8miles 1/4 mile?

Hey,

Well, I use maxis front tires, up front at around 85 psi, and I like to use a Schwinn Slick, from the apple crate bikes back in the 70's on the rear. It has a nice smooth flat profile, and plenty of meat. They were being remade again a couple of years ago, but who knows where to get them now...
I have spun the rim in the tire, and now know that it has to be up at around 65 psi to hold! A little rubber cement insured good traction between the rim and tire, and provided great take off traction at the race, with no rim slip wasting precious take off power.

My time was recorded by Tom Breedlove of the E power Challenge, at the Human powered Races held at the Portland International Raceway.
But all we have are the start and stop times, of 11.6, and 12.4 for two different runs. I call it a 12 second 1/8th mile run. They have caught an average speed of 35 miles an hour, from a dead start, to a little over 70 MPH.

I wish we had zero to 60 and all that, maybe next time...

Maxis tires seems an excellent choice.. I also have them.. ( 120PSI rated) great slik!

I guess you did the 70mph at the end of the 1/4 mile right?

it's strange cause 12 sec for a 1/8 mile with all power you have seems a bit high?.. I did in the mid 14 using a 5305 configured for torque at max speed of 42mph and 83% charge on the cells..

Anyway, Congrat for your record! I now have serious competitor!!
