Here we are testing out the new batteries at the drag strip. More fun than one can stand.
And that is all Tire smoke!

It was only 1/8 mile and in the high 60,s. Mph

We were just trying out the batteries for the NEDRA street division.

We will be pushing them more as we find out their limits.

Yes, Just got them in. Had been running PC 680s. (Now for sale, 4 months old)

Testing their capacity. Running 600 amps at the moment with more to come.

600A measured where? Battery side? Motor side? can the motor even HANDLE that? Thought you used a mars.... they're 300A peak motors.

These motors can take more than you think. All things have limits, whether volts, amps and the amount of time you apply these items.

It is a advertised as 300 amps peak, but for how long? How about 600 amps for 30 seconds? 800 for 20 seconds?

If you understand the limits of of every nut, bolt, part, wire, controller, battery and motor, you can accomplish allot.

Making the "puzzle" work is the fun part. Keeping it safe and damage free is the trick.......

Yeah, I wanna know how many C you're pulling from the Headways.

Good to hear the Mars can stand up to some abuse too.

Right now we are running 3 - 72 volt, 200 amp (according to headway) packs.

The times we are getting from the bikes compared to the PC 680s would indicate that it is close to that number. The voltage drop during the runs
(or in this case the lack of voltage drop compared to the PC 680's) also indicate that the cells are doing their job.

We will have better idea on their claims to the amount of power being put out and the time of delivery when we run a some 1/4 mile passes.

Headway has different models of batteries, (see Frodus for details) so your MPC may vary.

Sure, Lend me one and I will put it on. :D

We did do our base tests with a Memory PakTrakr and 800 amp current sensor. Did tests on motor side and battery side with lead PC 680s.

We are faster now with the Headways....

good to hear.

Can you throw it on the battery side? measure peak amps?

We do not have the meter anymore. Looked for one to borrow but no go.

We Just used it for a base line reference point.

If we can scroung one up we will get some numbers.

Just curious, did you try launching without the burnout? Are you making enough torque to really slip a 'cold' tire? Not being critical, just trying to find some data. I plan to do some testing at the drag strip also and was wondering if the burnout might have used up some of the power of the cells and therefore being detrimental to the run, or was the burnout needed to get enough grip for the launch? I realize that burnouts are fun and part of the show, and you mentioned that you were doing it for fun, so in that light I can totally see the use of the burnout.
Btw, it is still an impressive photo. How fast was the 1/8mile run?

Great question!

We normally do not do a burnout, they are for the crowd...and my entertainment. If we have a exhibition event (we have been invited to two shows so far to showcase the bikes)
we do burn outs for the "show".

Results:
With cold lead batteries, we would lose a fair amount of time with a burnout.

With warm lead batteries (a few passes and charges, we DO NOT heat up our batteries), we did not lose anything.

With the one burnout so far on Headways, we only lost 6 thousands of a second. Not enough to be a concern at this point.
We will be testing again (Tammy's bike) today with at least one burnout to see if there is any change in times.

We have been in the 9 second range in the 1/8 so far. More to come!
