i wish i had the trike in the avatar. alas it is just a photo i downloaded from the net. it is gas only. but i really like the simple lines. i'm just using it for inspiration til i get my own done.

Mid-Drive Nuvinci

Postby rkosiorek » Sun Mar 28, 2010 10:51 pm

finally. after a month of running down parts, making drawings and other things i'm getting back to working on the trike. i'm still working on building parts for the rear axle. the first assembly i completed was the mid- drive version of the NuVinci hub.

on the input side i have a 20t freewheel that will be attached to a 44t chainring at the cranks. it is threaded on to the NuVinci input adapter. beside it is a 27t sprocket that is welded to the back of the NuVinci adapter. i have a machined washer between the two so there is enough room for both chains. the 27t will go to a 13t freewheel on the output shaft of the motor unit.

this is how it looks from the back.

i drilled a few holes in a 20t sprocket and mounted it to the disc brake adapter on the output side of the NuVinci. this sprocket will attach through another chain to a 20T sprocket that will be mounted on the rear axle differential.

next step is to finish work on the differential.

i need to start working on this again. i have spent most of the last month adding a quick change tool post to the lathe and making some tool holders for it. so thanks for the kick in the pants. now i feel guilty and neglectful.

Well, after much procrastination and other crap. i finally cut a couple of plates from aluminum to trial fit the NuVinci CVT hub.

with a couple of minor adjustments it fits. and since i'm using this as a mid drive there will be 3 chains going to it. Whoopee!! it looks like i have enough clearance for all 3 of them.

although the differential would fit the axle, there was no way to assemble the rear end. so out came the hacksaw.

now i just have to make up some bits so i can connect both halves of the rear end again.
