I bought two of these:

MTE SSC P7 C-Bin 900-Lumen 8-Mode LED Flashlight (1*18650)


They were the brightest at the time I bought them. I am sure there are already brighter LEDs out there as of today.

I bought 7 for use driving lights, and for little "boosters" for my personal electronics as gifts. There are times I have entertained aggressive thoughts towards my cellphone when it ran out of juice at the precisely wrong time.

Anyway, this is exactly what I was looking for about 6 months ago, except I would have been happy with set 5v, having it adjustable is like... Well, pretty good.

I hope you keep stocking these, I know that I will come up with many other uses for them. The main project I have in mind will use 4 (maybe 2?) 18650's in a little case which opens to access the voltage adjuster and the cells, and a female usb or something.

From the pics above, it's a bit unclear what is high voltage in and lower voltage out. Does it say on the unit, or do you have a schematic?

You simply measure the voltage with you multi-volt meter while you twist the potentiometer‎ (variable resistors) to dial in your desire output voltage.

Lyen, When my flashlight arrives, I'm going to try to set it up with the converter. I'm hoping to wire it off my main pack, but it's is 20s lipo, 83V hot. Do you have any suggestions?

I'm wondering if could create a wire tap for half the pack, say ~40V to power the converter/flashlight. But would the current draw be significant enough over 15-30 min and consequently imbalance the pack?

Or Is there another thread you'd suggest I post in? Thanks!

Ordered 7 units, Nov 08, just received. Good seller. Electronics package is potted for the most part, feels pretty solid. I'm looking forward to making a portable super-usb charger for my ipod/phone/etc. out of old Moli cells. If I put 4 at 4.2v in series, that's 16.8v and I should be able to recharge using any car cigarette lighter. Now to make it pretty...

i have a p7 from deal extrem and also the converter but i have the same problem like you , i want to use my 24s pack but i found that more useful to bring some more
18650 spare cells in my pocket or bag pack so i can still use my flashligth with the mounting i will maybe you use the converter for something one day maybe for my laptop for emergency charging

if you make a kind of plug you can simply unplug the controller and charge direct all kind of thing from the battery lead output so you will not unbalance you pack

Yes you can and yes it will pull that half of the pack down a little but it's not a problem if your bulk charging in parallel, which I'm pretty sure you are.
I actually run the accessories on my bike off one 5S parallel unit - that's the beauty of parallel charging
The only thing you have to watch is if you go for long night rides and have multiple lights hooked up (p7s draw around 2.5 amps) the current draw won't be going through your CA or watt meter and so the total ah won't be accurate.

i can parallel all the packs and balance charge 5s w/ the icharger.

or i can 'bulk charge' the entire pack in series @ 80V...

which charging method will replenish an uneven pack(s) better?

That one! If you're balance charging it'll fix it either way.
I parallel bulk charge with a single 24v meanwell without the balancing - set to 5S voltage it brings every pack up to 21v regardless of what it's been discharged to. If also means in the absence of a BMS if a cell happens to go dead you'll potentially only overcharge that one sub pack and not your whole battery.

I finally got around to hooking mine up.I soldered leads to the pins on the back of the box(this seemed like the easiest solution with what I had on hand)and covered them in heat shrink tubing.I then used Anderson conectors in and out.I am running 36v in and 8.2 volts out ,and I can finally run my Magicshine lamp from the main battery on my bike Thanks Lyen this is working Great

Thanks, Lyen. Once again you save the day. Hyena got me all excited with his "Knight Rider" 12 volt light bar, found it on eBay but then I needed a dc-dc converter and here you are! I am so lucky you still have them in stock. Much appreciated!

I got the same DC to DC converter from a diferent sorce, I wanted to charge an Ipad that needs 2A at 5.1V I tried to use a dedicated car charger for a car cigerett lighter with an input range of 12V to 16V that is suposed to put out that kind of amperage when pluged in to a 4S or 3S turnigy 5Ah pack I got 2 min of charging then the Ipad shut down for about 3 miniutes, I then set up one of the DC to DC converters to a 5.1v output used the same 4S and 3S packs and it works perfectly. I connect up the external battery pack start up the most power hungry game I have for the ipad and keep an eye on the power level it still rises not very fast but it holds its own on everything, I also use it to charge up my Iphone 4 from 20% and in the red I can get it nearly full in half an hour and in an hour it is fully charged.
the box I have the converter in gets hot but that is to be expected, I fitted a standard usb socket in to the box as well so I could charge all my devices that use 5.1v to charge but as yet I have to use dedicated charging leads from the socket to the device tro charge with, I use the one's that came with one of my other external battery packs.

No magic smoke, no bravado, just 0 volts at the output, 58volts in.

What is the best way to convert the 18s into 3 or 4 volts?

Is it best to just use one battery pack of 6s and not draw to much from it?

Had a lot of luck using them so far for 58v in 12v out. Just solder a couple of wires to the ac pins, They usually only work with one polarity but if you get it wrong the first time it just wont start and dosen't seem to damage anything.

For me these have been cheaper, tougher and more reliable than a regular dc converter and since going on to higher voltages they are about the only one I can use. Also, they are very efficient.
