Wear the fox hat.
Spun-off from the altwheels thread...

Who would be your industry spokesperson(s) or icon, if you promoted ebikes; and why?

:?:

Icon: "Fanny" -- The Hot, Wheeled Fembot

Of course if she's on wheels, she especially won't need a bike, but logic never seems to matter in advertising campaigns. :D

Like this one, but with wheels for feet.

Striking... but maybe a little beyond the "family hour"...

I wuz thinking sexy, but more like Julia Roberts and less like Laura Croft.

Mebbee a high-school superhero like Spiderman, whiz-kid/asskicker.

A teen Dark Angel might work.

If Spy-Kids rode e-bikes that would reach the pre-teen market.

I don't think that's a good segment for ebike marketing to be targeting.
Hmmmm....these wires are yummy! Hey, I wonder if I can beat that truck to the stop sign....
Many if not most parents I see around here do not adequately supervise their children playing in the street as it is. There's a ~4 year old boy who zips around my neighborhood on a tiny, 10mph electric pocket bike either alone, or with his 8 year old sister.

Thats what we call evolution in action.

You mean natural selection.. 10mph is a bit much for a 4 year old, and in the street? Uhg. Pretty good that he's got the skills to ride it, but damn take it to a closed course.

No. The innocent kids, who aren't even of breeding age, pay the price while their parents, who seem to value their children so little, can simply replace any one lost within 9 months. On the flip side we have the helicopter parents, who smother and prevent their kids from suffering any lumps, progressively earning independence, and learning life lessons that way from their experiences.

And I'm an expert on this subject, having a well-adjusted and very independent 14-year old adopted daughter who's never been in trouble with the law, tried drugs, or gotten pregnant. She even stays at home alone for days or weeks at a time without messing up the place, calling friends over for parties, etc. The worst thing she's ever done in 14 years is barf on the rug and draw blood while biting my hand. Of course, she's a cat, and I haven't yet figured out how to break it to her that she's adopted, or that I stole her claws and ovaries. Anyway, my complicated kid problems are for the most part solved. :)

Hanks is not bad. He's got credibility and charm. Not great poster material, IMO.

There's also the "mystery celeb": (sunglasses) "I ride my ebike to blend in with the little people".

Similarly, the e-addict: (Silhouetted) "Ever since my friend let me try their e-bike... I just can't stop."

The green-but-not-bragging spot: (wide shot of yuppie meeting) V.O. : "One of these people just arrived on their bicycle... can you tell which one?" (camera peds-down to floor level to reveal bike helmet next to meeting-leader's shoulderbag)

You'll never sell Ebikes to the masses untill you can convince the masses that any bike is a good alternitive. Once a sizeable portion of the population is using a bike instead of a car several times a week, then you'll be able to sell the Ebike as an alternitive to the common bike.
One of the principle rules of marketing: Sell up.

Wasn't Jessica Alba a Bike messanger in that show?
She gets my vote as the spokes model for Bikes.
Or anything realy.

Yeah, she almost made me want to go out and buy a Pontiac Aztec..

And speaking of little kids going too fast in the street-

I want one of these!

So are you all blatantly omitting any discussion of Ed Begley and that mermaid chick as spokespeoples? Or are they so innocuous you totally forgot them?
(Is innocuous a good description or should I have said forgettable)?
EDIT: Is the Fembot available in other colors?

Ja, Ed and Darryl aren't makin a dent as yet.

Jennifer Garner would be good if she went back to the punk look (early ALIAS). Asskickin hotties going green could work.

She's a fantasy fembot; she's free to change her color or appearance as desired. :)

For sheer publicity value, Paris Hilton, sans her undies, on a ebike delivering cookies to a Army Reserve Company just back from Iraq.

Eeew -- associating three wholesome things (ebike, cookies, army reserve company) with two icky, disturbing things (Paris and Iraq) does not a good thing make. If I saw that, I'd never want another ebike, or another cookie again in my life!

kari wuhrer -has kids and might do it under the save the planet philosophy
Traci Lords -is she doing anything else?
Jessica Alba - might break the coolness barrier + drool
michelle trachtenberg - young energy and no current projects
Kate Beckinsale - might break the coolness barrier +drool +great sense of humour
Megan Fox - might break the coolness barrier + Drool+ did I mention drool - - has step kids
Jennifer Garner
Ed Beley Jr. - is into ebikes already a bit, but has no real celeb power.

Hanks would be good, might sell him on the concept that before cars are accepted bikes are the wedge to hammer. he'd be good at massaging the politicians as well.

Yes, 2007.

I like Ed Begly Jr, but he really doesnt appeal to the younger crowd. I think Matthew McConaughey or Natalie Portman get followed closely, and they seem to be conscious of their public image along with current issues pertaining to environmantal concerns.

Regardless of anyones personal feelings towards the movie "An Inconvenient Truth", it would not be hard to find the celebrities that were the most vocal about that. I seem to remember that Leonardo DeCaprio was a big supporter. "...DiCaprio has made several films to educate the public about environmental issues, including "11th Hour". He also serves as the Honorary Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Pacific Palisades-based Reef Check Foundation..."

edit: just played with my Google, "the Alliance for Climate Protection" lists Michael Mckean, Rob Reiner (producer, director, actor), Harry Shearer (The Simpsons), Christopher Guest (huh?)

"Global Green USA":
Celebrity supporters in attendance included James Cameron (movie director) , Maggie Grace, Roland Emmerich, Alison Brie, Radha Mitchell, Dennis Haysbert, Enrique Murciano, James Van Der Beek, Frances Fisher, Daphne Zuniga, as well as Oscar nominee Lucy Walker (Wasteland).

Brad Pitt, Darryl hannah,

"WILLIE NELSON, WOODY HARRELSON AND CELEBRITY FRIENDS ANTE UP FOR THE ENVIRONMENT!
(Gardena, CA) -- I might be a loser, but Im a WINNER...were all winners! exclaimed David Arquette (actor, husband of actress Courteney Cox) at the first annual charity poker tournament to benefit the Sustainable Biodiesel Alliance. Players from around the country converged on the Hustler Casino Los Angeles for Willie and Woodys All Star Texas Holdem Tournament. Celebrities including Hank Azaria (The Simpsons), Peter Farrelly (director), Mila Kunis (That 70's Show), Anne Heche (certified nutjob) and joined tournament headliners Willie Nelson and Woody Harrelson for an evening of fun at the Hustler Casino Los Angeles on September 26th 2010.

"Sting (Gordon Summer) co-founded The Rainforest Foundation with his wife, Trudie Styler, to help save rainforests in South America..."

"Pierce Brosnan and his wife Keely Shaye are committed environmentalists..."

Aston Kutcher was recently caught by the paparazzi driving a 7-MPG mega-truck (much to his embarrassment), so he might be interested in trying to re-gain some green-cred, couldn't hurt to ask?
