Exo-bikes is small company in Estonia, northen Europe, that is currently developing small but innovative scooters. Whole chassis is made of welded aluminium sheet, very durable and light. The bikes have custom made electronics, so no cheap chinese components.

Non-hub has the possibility of being more efficient at lower wheel RPM's. If they somehow added a 2-speed trans (planetary in the wheel?), this would be an epic milestone. Innovative frame construction method, reminds me of the FW-190 story. I know that method has been used before, just not yet on a scooter as far as I know.

Build Fenders for Exo Neutrino Electric Bike and Win Prizes
July 28, 2011

How about participating in a challenge now? A green contest that will bring to you some awesome gifts is what we are talking about. Okay, here we go. You might have heard of the tiny electric scooter called the Exo Neutrino. The scooter, which has all the properties of a bike, is a vehicle that can take you 60 km in one go. Further, you can carry it anywhere too. The challenge we have for you is to build fenders for this scooter. In fact, you don’t have to build from scratch – you just have to redesign the fenders.

The scooter now comes with plastic fenders, which have been made using the extrusion technique. That makes then too fragile and not so easy on the eyes. So, the goal now is to make good looking fenders using ABS plastic using the common molding method. So bring out the designer-engineer in you and start now.

The design can follow the CAD models as displayed here and here. The salient features reads thus:

Front fender uses 2 x M10 bolts, back fender uses 4 x M4 bolts
Tire clearance of 30 mm
Width of the fender must be at least 20 mm greater than the width of the tire
Must be easy to manufacture using common molding methods from ABS plastic
No shorter / longer than shown on the drawing

The design needs to go with the Neutrino’s funky sharp edges and corners and has to be creative. Further, have in mind that the design you make goes well with the lightweight aspect of the electric vehicle.

When you design the fender, ensure that you have in mind properties that will keep the vehicle safe from dirt, mud and other debris on the streets. Also, it will have to be easy to install.

The winning design will end on 31st of July and the competition is open to all. You can submit several designs and you will be free to choose your CAD software as long as you also upload a STEP or IGES file. Make sure you tag your model with “exobike” for searchability. The company says you can keep your model private but you need to share access to indrek@grabcad.com. The winning design will be selected by a joint jury of Exo and GrabCAD team and announced here.

So this is your chance to win. The first prize winner will get a GoPro Hero HD camera, while the second prize will be a $100 Amazon gift card. The third prize winner will get a GrabCAD tshirt. We know there isn’t too many days left, but give it a try.
