Presenting Glow Worm Bicycles in Sydney, Australia

Postby glowwormbicycles » Mon Mar 21, 2011 5:59 am

Hi All,

This is a 1 time thread to introduce ourselves:

Image

In March 2010 we opened the doors to our new bikeshop specialising in electric bicycles. Our aim is to encourage more people to ride bikes and to support cyclists with a full workshop for servicing, repairs and parts to keep you rolling! We love ebikes and kit conversions and think they can provide enjoyable & practical transport.

We sell eZee and Wisper electric bikes and kits as well as pedal bikes from Kona, Allegro, Larry vs Harry, Bakfiets & Gazelle. We also service & repair electric bikes from other brands if you don't have a local dealer, are out of warranty or built it yourself. Our wheelbuilding and truing services are described in this post.

You can read extensively about our shop, staff & range of electric bikes and kits here:
http://glowwormbicycles.com.au/about

Photos of our trips, ebike conversions and other cool things can be found here:

We are open 6 days a week from 10AM-6PM (closed Wednesday) and welcome anyone to check us out & try our bikes! You'll find our address in the signature below and full contact details on our site.

So you know who you're talking to when posting on E-S, we'll sign off with our name 8)

Cheers,
Abraham
(I also post about my own personal overvolting adventures under the handle voicecoils)

As a sydney ebike rider I wish you all the best!

While I hope to never need your service department expertise it's good to know there are some experienced people close by if needed :)

Good Luck, I'm sure the wheel building service will be handy for locals.

Thanks for the well wishing guys. The Sydney ebike scene is starting to build, both with ebike shops selling turnkey bikes and guys like Hyena pushing the limits 8)

One night I saw 3 other ebikers on the road and we see a couple pass our shop every day now. Some on our bikes and other ones as well.

Gregory, for anyone struggling to find someone to build their hubmotor wheels locally, we can build & send them complete by courier. It's not cheap because they'll generally charge by the volume instead of weight but it's often not prohibitively expensive.

Local E-S members are welcome to come by and try the bikes just for fun too. We have around a dozen demo bikes of different models that you can take for a spin.

Cheers, Abraham

Way to go voicecoils. :)

I wish you guys the best.

Australia is damn lucky to have you and Hyena as gateways into ebiking.
Beautiful shop!
Good work and good luck!
For ebike parts, don't be a douche, buy from http://www.ebikes.ca or http://www.MethTek.com

good luck with the store.

as a fellow sydney-ite, i can be sure to need to come to you sooner or later !

good to know that there is now a specialist in ebikes not that far away from me.

do you offer general servicing too ?
i will be wanting a general service on my bike soon.
was going to take it to my LBS, but with all the extra ebike bits, i would be more confident
taking it to someone that's experienced in ebikes.

Thanks Jason.

We do lots of bicycle servicing on our own bikes, ordinary bicycles and other ebike brands or DIY conversions.

Electric bike's need all the same attention to brakes, drivetrain, adjustments and lubrication as ordinary bicycles. But, with our experience with electric bikes we are extra careful when removing hubmotor wheels and working around wiring, handlebar controls and motor controllers.

You can read about our bicycle servicing here: http://glowwormbicycles.com.au/bicycle-servicing-and-repairs

As many would know, the electrical side of ebikes rarely need to be 'tuned up' they just keep going. But, if something stops working correctly we can do repair work too: http://glowwormbicycles.com.au/electric-bicycle-service-and-repairs

Look forward to seeing you at the shop!

Cheers, Abraham

i had a good look around the store's site last night. looks great.

yeah, all of my electricals are working fine. it's just the regular bike servicing that i will be wanting soon.
i also want someone to look over my installation of the ezee rear hub motor, to make sure it's all ok.
i have installed a makeshift torque arm (the little one that came with the kit) but i would be much happier
with a new larger one. and i think the rear wheel spokes could do with a re-tension soon. im starting to hear
noises under throttle at low speeds where the torque is highest.

i have been trying to stay off the throttle as much as possible at starts to try to limit any excess torque on the spokes,
until i can have someone look at it. at the moment, im only using light throttle and only once im already moving.

i will ring the store in the not too distant future. i have to pay for rego and insurance on the cage first.
