Thanks for posting this up. Hopefully everyone will get off the couch and get into the saddle for this race! Maybe my secret weapon will make it to this race. Just ran out of time for it to run in the Death Race. WoooooHooooo lets go!

Hi E-people :D

I was chatting with Thud over at motorbicycling.com today about electric bikes
in the SoCal Willow Springs race on June 18th when he told me about this thread.

As the organizer I am here to talk to you guys and ask a few questions.
I was not at the Death Race in Tucson and have never put on a race event before.
I have never ridden an electric bike either.

How many electric bikes do you think will show? Who all here is coming for sure?

I was thinking to run the electric bikes with the unlimited gas bikes like Morinis and
other large displacement 4 strokes.
Of course how many bikes show up in these classes may change this.
Was also considering running the 3 or 4 fastest China 2 strokes and 50 cc 4 strokes in this
ultimate unlimited race too.

Would be happy to answer any questions and take suggestions.
Only have a bit less than 2 months to the day to pull this off.

We need about 75 entries to pay for everything at $20 per rider.
Need all the help I can get to publicize the Willow Springs race and bring more riders.
Over 100 would really make it a success and lead to bigger and more exciting racing
later this year at Willow Springs International Motorsports Park. :D
Any extra funds  will go towards this goal.

Is anyone here or knows of an EMT who will volunteer on the race day?
This will save us about $350

I am going out to the track at Willow Springs next week to scope it out.
I have lots of questions and concerns to figure out.

What special needs do you ebike guys have in terms of charging batteries, etc
at the Go Kart track and time between heats, races etc?
Would appreciate any feedback from previous Death race participants or other
races.

How do you like the track layout? I will be taking photos on our pre-ride as I can't
seem to find any good ones of the Go Kart track.

Thanks

PS: I almost forgot to add that if you aren't into racing and just want to cruise around
a track you are still very welcome to come. There will be time allotted for track riding
without pressure.
The event is going to be a lot of fun.
Great looking forum!

My suggestion BiMoPed would be to post this also under the Tucson Death Race 2011 roll call thread in E-bike general discussion area. Sure am glad you are doin the event. Since I have just found out about it, personally not sure if I can make it yet. Yes, we could use charge outlets or generators to charge. Personally would like to see us all run together. We also have varying capabilities in riding and equipment but it is still fun dueling those you happen to find next to you no matter what level you find yourself at. Don't have time to give more feedback now but will get back to you soon! I really would like to make it there!

Good to see you BiMoPed - Evo has a good suggestion dropping this info into the "Death Race role call" thread.

We're such a bunch of dorks - there wasn't even a post in this category for DR 2011 other than AW posted something about hooking-up. But an announcement for the actual event - I never saw it if it was ever posted here.

Fact is, few people will read the "event forum" but we'll do what we can to spread the word and try to get more people to attend these events. They're really a great outreach to people curious about motored bikes and the riding culture.

I really wanna make it - I only have pokey beach cruiser and electric kickbikes at my home in San Diego. Work's also in the air mid-June but will probably know in a few weeks if stars align?

Thanks again...

OK I will copy the my post to the Tucson Death Race 2011 roll call thread in E-bike general discussion area.
OR would it be better to start a new thread there about this SoCal race?

Yes, event forums don't get read too much but other forums Make you put the info there.

Going to be separate gas classes for sure and the number of electrics showing
will determine how and where they are run.
ebikes will be running in the unlimited gas class at the very least.

Will be checking for electric charging at the Go kart track when i go visit.
I really doubt if any generators are supplied

Why separate classes? The whole appeal is gas vs electric IMHO.
For ebike parts, don't be a douche, buy from http://www.ebikes.ca or http://www.MethTek.com

liveforphysics wrote:Why separate classes? The whole appeal is gas vs electric IMHO.

I never said that the ebikes won't be running against the gas bikes.
I don't know where you got that from?

There will be a class for China 66cc and 50 cc 2 strokes with all mods allowed.
and another for the 50cc and 79cc, etc 4 strokes

AND an unlimited gas with ebikes race with the fastest 3? 4? or 5? from the 2 classes above.
This will include Morinis, Whizzers and all other large engined bicycles.

IF there are enough ebikes we May have a separate class too if time allows
and if your batteries can hold up???

There will be too many bikes to have everyone in one big race like the Death race.
and its unfair to race Morinis and high powered ebikes
against 66 cc 2 strokes and 50 to 79 cc 4 strokes even
though this will happen in The Unlimited Class

The Willow Sprngs Go Kart track is a bit smaller and a few less turns than the Death race
but we have 9 hours on the track from 8am to 5pm

So, how many ebikes are going to race?

If I could ride fast and safely with the leg this way, and get the time off work, I'd love to go. :) Not happening for a while, though. :(

I'm still sorely tempted. Very sorely.

I will probably show up, if there is a few good bikes there. The only thing is, Palmdale is freakin out in the middle of nowhere! It's literally over an hour off any major freeway. There are sooo many good Kart tracks a hell of a lot closer to the majority of SoCal riders, like Perris Kart track. Anyway, the Death race was a lot of fun to just get out on the track and ride, to me it's worth the $20 to just be able to use the track, the race is a bonus.

I think a maximum of 10 ebikes might show, so it would be nice to have at least 6 outlets for charging available. But if not, I can bring my generator, and I'm sure others can too. If you run heat races, you will have to stuff all the ebikes into the first one, and then give us about 2-3 hours before the main. You might even time the ebike laps to see where they stand vs. the faster Morini's and such. The Death Race looked like a ton of fun with all the bikes out there at once, this way you end up racing those as fast as you, not really the ones at the head of the pack. Otherwise, the speeds are all so different, it ends up just a few guys spread out over the track. It gets really interesting when the leaders start to lap traffic too! :P

Good news, there is NO $10 gate fee for riders that pay the $25 fee [Includes credit card fees]
I have the exclusive use of the Go Kart track.
All riders that pay the $25 fee to race or cruise on the track will get a number.
Riders can bring a few pit workers for free too.

Even better the tent or car camping on a asphalt lot is included for riders too
so that is free as well.
RV hookups are available for only $25.

There are local motels for those who want more comfort and can afford it.

So how many of you eBikes are showing up?

There is limited electric power at the track so you eBikers will need to bring
generators to charge your batteries.
Wilow Springs has generators but costs extra.
Will be going out to the track soon to check it out.

I am thinking about reserving the race numbers 100 to 120 solely for eBikes.

I am only using numbers 0 to 99

I hope you guys are following along at http://motorbicycling.com/f35/socal-rac ... 28897.html

Only 48 days to go to the big day!

 The Cortina is going to Willow Springs to RACE

Really looking forward to meeting all the ES guys and having a great time.
Tim, my friend and Willow Springs bike racer, will be in the saddle. I am not up to racing bikes, no experience and old bones, and Tim is an experienced bike racer. But I always wanted to race cars...got the racing bug up my butt I guess

Hope to arrive on Friday afternoon - staying at the Devonshire for the night.

Got some stuff to do on the Cortina but unless there are surprises should be good to go by race time.

Personally hope you dont get 10, and doubt you will. I want to see the e-bikes i know are going (Etards in particular) running against the gassers, they wont have a hope in hell against it, electric will make the gassers look silly yet again hehehe :P

Good luck to all e-riders, and to the red neck stink bikers, i hope you only get grazes not broken bones, well at least not compound fractures :-P
