500W-ish front motor kit and batteries

Postby donorcycle » Sun May 08, 2011 7:31 pm

I have a bike I want to electrify but I do not want to sink a lot of money into it because the bike is not that nice. I hope to have more money next year to spend on a better project but want something in the meantime. I would prefer batteries other than lipo. I live in 89701 USA. Thanks

The batteries you could try to source Lead somewhere local, but not great. LiPO4 would be ok, but the ones from Cell_Man are a123 (super high quality), but relatively expensive [you gave no indication of your range]. I would read up on the options from Cell_man, he's a bit slow to respond too. You didn't indicate much else.. and the only thing I can suggest is that reading more on ES because everything demands on your needs.

The donor bike not being great does not necc mean you want a cheaper bike setup, since you can install the kit on a new bike if you get a new bike.

350-1000w motor. and batteries. I'm open to anything cheap. The batteries are the most expensive part, and I am hoping someone maybe wants to upgrade to higher voltage or amperage and has a lower power motor and batteries to get rid of to help finance the upgrade. The bike would be used to go to work which is < 5 miles each way and to go fishing making a 1200 ft ascent over 5 miles on a dirt road.

I would park the bike in a stairwell at work where it would be unmonitored. So, I do not want lipo batteries due to the fire hazard. I also would rather not burn down my house.

BMS battery has some good prices on equipment but they are out of stock on half of their items

I actually got a quote from Cell Man. For the price of his kit, I could buy a complete e-bike. Granted, his electrical components would be better.

Go to this post, lowest price I have seen for a 9C kit:

viewtopic.php?f=31&t=14731

They still have them but the response to a PM takes a while. You need to PM drasp and ask him to forward your email address to the person who has the kits. Yeah it's a hassle but the kits are only $249 shipped.

They only have front 26" 500W kits left.

If you want a warranty from a US dealer go to AmpedBikes.com, that's where I ordered my kit $346 without batteries front or rear.

The lowest cost ebike I've seen is $397.54 at Walmart. 450W 24V with an SLA battery. It's good for around 15mph but you can mod it to go faster. It's a decent starter bike. http://www.walmart.com/ip/EZIP-TrailZ-W ... e/12528126

I hope this information helps.

thank you stanz

I actually was trying to buy a used IZIP trails from a local guy but he wanted too much. They were selling those on Amazon at one point for $250. I wish I would have bought one. The donor bike I have is about EZIP quality, but those prefab electric bikes can have some good wiring in the frame etc.

I did try to contact that 9C seller but it was a different person. Thank you for the tip and the different contact. I will try.
