KingFish, you have hijacked this for-sale thread to make it your personal troubleshooting blog. (22) of the past (23) threads have been about your troubleshooting instead of sales, (14) of which you posted. This is inappropriate content for a for-sale thread, it belongs in "E-bike Technical" or "E-Bike general" etc. Further, any knowledge/content you generate here will be ERASED when this for-sale thread is eventually, automatically, deleted.

You posted earlier in this thread that you created this thread for your troubleshooting details: http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=26675&start=60#p428840 . That is an example of an appropriate place where anyone who cares can find the details, and it will not be automatically deleted.

I believe that you got three responses to your shunt value question. All said that it was 2.4. You were offered a way to calibrate it correctly but you confused yourself by trying to use the max amps function on your CA.

oatnet made a good point when he mentioned that the forum rules spell out that all the for sale threads eventually disappear.

Hope you get your problems sorted out.

I have 3 of these controllers and they work just dandy at 100V 40-80A. Lyen did the high voltage regen mod for me, I got the 3 position switch from him, and I have never had any single issue with any of the controllers. I was briefly running slightly over 9KW until I determined my GM isnt much faster at that power level. The controller barely was warm, generally. The only time I was concerned, was when I was towing a car down the block. The high sustained power, and very low speed, lead to a warm controller.

The Rshunt isn't an exact science, setting it to the exact number for one will only get you fairly close, not dead on. If you really care about accurite values, get something like a Watts-Up or Turnigy meter, and calibrate it yourself. Set the CA to a rough value, like 2.4 or 2.0 mOhm, it wont matter much. Go a few miles, and compare the total AH consumed, mulptily the CA shunt value by the difference between the two values, BAM, it should be as accurite as the meter you used. The resistance of the in line power analyzer will not impact the shunt value, as both should be reading identical current. The Turnigy meter is probably a better bet, due to higher current ratings, backlight, the lower price, and POT's to calibrate it yourself.

I don't see how the seller should be responsable in ANY way for informing you of the exact Rshunt value.

I think its in the methods 18 fet thread but there is a way to run power through on phase lead and ground it will go through the freewheeling diodes in the fets and you can hook a multimeter in series or use something like the wire cut mode on a lipo charger set to a known amperage.
There is many ways to calibrate the shunt and king fish you seem alot smarter then me with this stuff so I know you can find a way.

Apology

Postby Kingfish » Sun Jul 24, 2011 10:26 pm

I am here to apologize, and to remove my posts between at Sat Jul 02, 2011 9:40 am and Sat Jul 23, 2011 1:12 pm on this thread by request. A copy of these posts and relevant replies may be placed on my Trailer thread possibly – that being the spawn of interest in dual controllers et cetera. This post shall remain as a pointer.

Lyen makes fine controllers. I have the namesake 12-FET mounted on my ebike and a 6-FET Mini-Monster in reserve; it is a nice unit accepting any-voltage and is quite flexible in utility. For more information on how I have adapted this controller, please refer to the Trailer thread as a primer.

Sincerely, KF

I'm talking about phase current.. not max controller current... the parameter for phase current can be defined in programming...

I believe that Lyen considers data about the stuff he sells to be IP (intellectual property) because I have only seen him send it in PM. I think I once made him cross when I innocently posted his ebike-tester instructions, like I would with any other product used on endless-sphere.

He probably doesn't know, the only control mechanism on these is the shunt feedback which is battery current. It's not easy to measure phase current, let alone specify it in certain limits.

He does like to send information directly though, I've noticed that. Good guy though.

He had an idea of what to set it to in his response to me in pm. I've seen figures quoted elsewhere in the forum so I will just say the ones I've seen: phase current should be about 2.3-2.5 times controller current. This is an open forum, but I do respect Lyen's effort to maintain his status as the Go-TO guy...

If I was to guess I woulda say 50-60 main and 125-150 phase.... but leaning toward the lower end, because phase 150 phase can blow a 12fet controller easily in a hot day.
