Very true, from a power to weight standpoint, hubmotors are absolutely horrible, horrible efficiency aswell. And even their burst power, IMHO there best feature, cannot really be used as they seem to reach magnetic saturation before anything impressive happens. BUT, That's an HX motor that was tested to its flaming plasma death, not an X5 IIRC. Having become quite intimate with the insides of both, I can say that an HX motor has about 1/2 of the Iron a X5300 and about 1/3 the thermal mass, not being attached to a massive aluminum casting. I'm betting that an X5300 hits saturation at about 14kw, and this new X5 at about 18Kw. and Even at 60% average Efficiency,

Believe i or not.. My X5303 at 100km/h and 8kW is 80% efficient .. and .. this is good to see that with the SWBLUTO and Ebikes.ca simulator, i get the same result..
At 11kW and 113km/h it is still 78% efficient

As well.. the 113kmh air cooling help keeping the motor coller

An extra $20 sounds excellent to speed things up... We could be waiting quite a while for another 21 buyers...

maxwell65 communicated with me and the commitment is 10 right now. That total does NOT include farfle's 6, because max says farfle has not sent a commitment email or something like that. So, if farfle really will buy 6 as he says, then we would be at 16.

135mm dropout,but u can only use a one speed cassette or 3 speed cassette,,,(that is the only way it will fit in a standard 135mm rear drop-out) one or 3 speed cassette not included (no price on that yet)

Anyone know why these hub motors always come with the old fashion screw-on freewheel?

they are thread on cassettes,,,i do not know why they do not have the new types of cassettes,,but i will ask clyte and when i get a response from them i will post it here.,,,can anyone here explain how the new type of cassettes are in fact installed on regular installations,,,pics?

Wouldn't it be a little easier if we had one forum memeber accept all the hub deliveries?... This one member should be able and willing to lace these hubs to a rim with high quality parts. (for a small fee. nothing is free ) Maybe ilia?

Im going to assume everyone will eventually need the hub laced up. And i dont know about you guys, but the people around me look at an electric hub and start scratching thier heads. I wouldnt trust a local to lace up my hub. So i figure having all the hubs shipped to one person who could lace and mount would save some people time/shipping.

Once again, sorry if someone already touched base on this. I know it would save me some time and money.

and just how firm is that price?

i know these things are never set in stone & it's already gone up from the initial highly optimistic $290.
how much of a factor is the fluctuating prices on Nd magnets, is that gonna be a problem?
can't see kenny eating the cost if they skyrocket between now & when it's ready to ship.

is it possible the price could still go up even after the order is placed?

Then you can get the 5400 motor you've been dreaming about. For me, since this would be my first conversion, I won't start out with a monster yet.
