Max, just saw your email. I will send my info soon.

Can someone help me decide on the 135mm vs 150mm axle spacing. I am not concerned with gears and actually a 1 speed is fine. Also, I will be building my rear fork custom for this so I am not trying to put it into an existing bike. I do want a strong wheel. My concern is the 135mm will be the same as the 150mm motor simply with a shorter axle. If that is the case, I am guessing the 150mm would have the rim centered and the 135mm would have to dish the rim a bit. I want as little dish as I can get. Will the 135mm axle spacing require me to dish my wheel when I lace it up, or will it be centered? Is there anyone with a 135mm spacing 5400 out there? -Damcard

Food for thought. Last time I bought a 5305 in a rim I thought every thing was fine. Got to LBS and found a flat spot. Probably happened in shipping as lacing improperly would not have been able to do this. This was a used motor with a brand new rim. So I bought a salsa gordo rim ,new spokes etc and end up with much better setup. A bent rim could happen real easy tossing those boxes around.
Most rear dropouts 135mm wide.....like 95% Ok , just read you thread again. Why don't you try emailing kenny at crystalite?

damcard i think the 135mm will be less dished.

i was checking disk brakes spacing from the frame on 135mm and 150mm frames, in bike stores and they seem same, only the hieght of bracket changes with bigger disk diameter, but i didnt measure it with caliber.

if the disk spacing is the same then that means the motor should be at same distance from the rear fork on disk side, wich leaves you with more space on the freewheel side in a 150mm axle, so if looking at the bike from it's back where freewheel is in right and disk is on left, the motor will be more dished to it's left.

i have the 405, which is same width, and from posts i red about the 400 there was a problem using a disk, not anough space with 6-7 speed freewheels, so i am guessing they moved the motor to the right side on the expanse of speeds so we can use only 3 speed freewheels, what tells me that in 135mm axle the motor is more centered

yes, you should've gotten an email from max about a week ago. It tells you what to do, prices for different options, who to pay etc... I think Max was looking to get all his replies by October 3rd. Atleast that's what the email said. I would just shoot max an email and jump in ASAP.

I was discussing this w/ ZOMGVTEK, and we're hoping to hit 50mph running (24s) 100v,but that's just a guess. We know it's big, we know it's heavy, we know it has 11 gauge phase wires, so we will be able to throw a sh%@!load of juice at it without burning it up. It' gonna be fun

For some reason nobody really knows what speed these run. I'd be fine with it only going 30 on 24S, it would just give me an excuse for 48S!

As long as its >20MPH @ 100V, and <60 MPH @ 100V, i'm happy.

30s lipo + 5303+24" + 10kW = 113km/h ( I confirmed)

My guess:

30s lipo +5403 + 10kW = 115km/h ( more efficient motor bnecause more copper crossing the magnetic field)

24s lipo + 5403 = should be around 100km/h

24s lipo + 5404 = should be around 85kmh

Sounds good Doc, You are talking about a 20 inch wheel? I have been thinking about running the 5404 @ 36s to keep the amps down. If I set-up the controller for 65amp, would I get the same result as 24s @ 100amp? - Mark

yes mark, you would, watts are watts no matter what volt/amp you use to get there. HOWEVER. more volts=higher top rpm, so higher final top speed. more amps=controller melting/motor melting+heat... so most of us prefer volts to amps like you are suggesting :). Basically with the lipo rc, you wont be maxing it's amps out, but you will be capable of blowing controllers or motors for sure; that is the limiting side of the equation for most people; start with a top speed you want to hit, figure the kv out for the motor, find a controller that hits that speed at a certain voltage and there you go.
