2012 Endless Sphere (inter)National Meet

Postby Lenk42602 » Wed Aug 10, 2011 6:57 pm

All,

After coming through this recent ownership transition, I have come to realize that I truly value this forum and the the contributing members. I also have come to realize that I have yet to meet even one of you. I was thinking tonight that we probably ought to have some sort of (inter)national meet up here somewhere in North America? I really would like to meet all of Aussies and UK members, but I am envisioning a road trip to the destination, bikes in tow, woman riding shotgun...

Perhaps plan for 2012 late summer? Obviously much discussion would be involved, but I would love to be a part of this and meet all of the great folks that I feel like I virtually know. Bring our bikes, tell each other lies, who knows...

Could be a hoot. I would like to see what the interest would be...

Unless it's in Boston, or NYC I would have trouble getting there, though I know two members in the Boston metro. Might be able to rideshare it.

Might it make more sense to have a few coordinated parties in different regions, webcast feeds from each to eachother.

It's a neat idea but maybe it ought to be intra-national instead. Each country's participants could meet up with eachother around the same time and collaborate etc...and then post the results of the meet up on here. Perhaps even big places like the us should have a couple regions that meet. East & West for example. The densest populace of ES riders I am aware of is the northwest and west coast... lot of us love ebikes over here :)
What is matter? Never mind.
What is mind? No matter.

Haha oh brother, accidentally ended up there during that crap once, what poor judgement that was...

Either way I'm in. We should turn it into a little ebike conference, but only for those in the know.

How about an ES booth at each MakerFaire?

Bay, Detroit, NYC.

We sell ES merch and get some coin back to Justin.
Have a Nice Day,

I definately like the idea, but we would probably have to get a few going in different places. I like the webcast idea. I am pretty mobile, and love taking roadtrips, but I know a lot of members can't travel that far, so having smaller/closer meetups would probably work for them. If we are going big with webcasts and everything, I think we should have it on Aug 9th, or at least the Aug 9th weekend.

Ya know, I would bet that Sturgis would welcome us - that would be hilarious!

I think the August 9 anni date is a great idea.

Regarding web casts, that would be cool and all, but I want to throw a leg over machines, meet the folks that make this site what it is, look them in the eye. Maybe have a rally, some racing, perhaps even a locate some single track for some woods fun, etc...I really would like the central theme to be to celebrate this forum and its members.

Smaller meet ups would kind of defeat the purpose of at least a national meet. Would definitely make sense to do a webcast for each continent..........

Either way, any meet up, in any capacity will be better than nothing. I will meet some of you folks in the future!

If you do it in June next year in Western Canada, I can come along. I'll be there for a conference and to visit a lab I collaborate with in Vancouver.

Otherwise another riverside e-bike ride in Perth would be nice now that the weather is warning up a bit eh KiM?

Bringing your bike prolly would get you free admission as part of the booth/exhibit.

Maybe ES members local to the venues have some ideas about tracks for races.

I went to the Detroit maker faire this year, it's well worth going to. It would be a worthy destination. One person brought his electric motorcycle to show off. There were a bunch of DIY bikes that had a line of people trying them out. Electric bikes need to be represented, but I don't know if it would be safe to allow them to be ridden in such a crowd. Just too many people walking around. You can still show them off yourself and there is a small cart track you can ride them on. Too many turns to be able to race them, track is setup for power wheels racing. I plan to attend next year as well since my nieces had such a fun time and want to attend both days due to all the crafts. It's a great event for kids, but I enjoyed talking to the builders and seeing what cool stuff people can make.

I'd request/recommend maybe choose places that are both maker faire locations and "bike friendly" cities, with of course the definition of Bike (bicycle) Friendly up for debate.

For example, DC, Minneapolis, Boston, and NYC (next spring) all have bike share and have made great strides to push cycling as an alternative to the American automobile-exclusive transport society. I'd rather spend my hotel and restaurant dollar at a place that respects bikes than a place that is clueless.
1st build: Dahon Jetstream folding bike. Quick, reliable, capable of 30mph. Light enough to lift, folds for easy transport by car/bus/train.
2nd build: RC powered 2009 Norco A-Line. Top speed 31mph. Built like a tank, it's resistant to Boston potholes, can stop on a dime, easily goes up/down curbs when necessary.
3rd build (just started): Scratch build ultimate utility bike.

The lakeshore bike path is almost always busy.

Closed tonight due to high winds and hugh waves.

I love the lake front, but it's always busy. Just about impossible on holidays and weekends.

Chicago meet? That would be nice.
Chicago loves Bikes!

Dan
It sure would be nice to know where we are all located, ON THIS WORLD.

You guys have the timing all wrong. In the dead of winter when most of you are jonesing from not riding or tired of freezing your butt off when you do ride, and our buddies down under are wanting to escape the heat, then you all hop on planes and come to ebike paradise. Bringing bikes would be a pain, so I'd be sure to have plenty to ride. You haven't lived until you've ridden on a hard packed sand beach at low tide. For the competitors there's a full race facility with cart, car, bike, and drag tracks that's close enough to my house to just ride the bikes there, and $4 gets you run of the place daily in the sunrise to 11am practice session.

A word of warning though, with any sizable group I can pretty much guarantee that some of you will only go back for long enough to pack your shit and move down permanently.
