17 Inch Wheels *SOLD OUT*

Postby Stevil_Knevil » Sat Dec 31, 2011 5:27 am

Hi there,

I have several 17 inch wheels for sale.

Image

The rims are 36H FEMCO 1.20x17 chrome plated steel (that's 40+ mm wide folks!). Spokes are 12 gauge (2.58mm dia.) Stainless Steel laced 2-cross to a 100mm wide, disc compatible QR alloy front hub. Building a very strong, hub motored wheel should be pretty straight forward if you cut & thread these spokes to length, or just plop it in your disc compatible (QR dropout) fork as is!

Image

Yes, DOT compliant. Cost is 50 bux each +shipping from NorCal ..you lucky people 8)

ERD = 418.5 mm
Spoke Hole Diameter = 5.14mm
Spoke Diameter = 2.58mm
Nipple Diameter (before the flare) = 4.6mm
Weight = 4.25 pounds
Hub Flange Diameter = 58mm
Hub Flange Width (C->C) = 58mm
Bearings = Sealed cartridge (made in Japan)

EDIT: Measurements and details in bold type added/fixed.

Is that QR, or is it a 3/4" through hole? Can I see a pic of the other side of the hub?

AH thanks.

What is the dropout width?

Looking at this side, it is hard to see from the pic, do you think I would be able to bolt a flat plate, for a sprocket adapter, against it by drilling through the hub with say 6 bolts. This is going to be for Meaga power, hopefully north of 20KW

"Luke Proof" That's exactly what I need!

Maybe you can get me some closeups of the non brake side of the hub from a few different angles. Do you have a link to info/tech drawings on the hub?

If you need standard 6-bolt ISO rotor (chainring?) mounts on BOTH sides, I also have a few of these wheels with goofy 128mm wide hubs..

I can take a few more pictures and measurements if you need. Sorry, no links to tech drawings of the hubs as I have no idea who made them. I do know they are NOS wheels from the '01-'02 Voloci electric motorbike:

What tyres do they take? ?
What is the rolling diameter?
ERD? if I just want a rim to lace direct to a hub (5404)
Diameter of the nipple holes...will it take 10 gauge spokes?
Do spoke holes have inserts? or just straight holes in the rim?
Mongoose frame, Fox F100 forks,26x2.3 tyres
180mm disks

Somehow I doubt I could fit either of the 17" tires in the below links on there...what do you think?

I'm pretty sure they're WAY too wide to squeeze into that rim. :(

Don't have my scale handy, but I would estimate the front wheel at ~5 pounds. Cheapest shipping Option by USPS looks like 25 bux, and ~1 week to your door. I will get solid numbers for you tomorrow.

-These are moto rims, measured at the bead.
-A 2.50-17 Michelin Gazelle would be a good fit, ~23 inch/584mm diameter.
-The display in my vernier caliper just went blank as I was trying to establish ERD and nipple hole diameters :roll: will have those numbers when I get a fresh cell later today, Neil.
-No inserts. Spoke holes are in a dome shape which will allow a few degrees of angle without tweaking the spoke at the nipple.

Sorry AW, 2.50 is proly the widest practical tire for these rims, width at the bead is ~1.35".

Yes, DOT approved 17" Moto wheel :D

Those should all work well, Drew. I really like the tread on the Michelin Gazelles, reminds me of a flat-tracker..

This is what my C-lyte Hx motor shell looks like placed over the center of the wheel. Maybe possible to pull off a 1-cross lacing pattern?

'Domed' shape that the nipple fits into. Spoke Hole Diameter = 5.14mm

Thanks Steve. I have been looking for some like this locally. Looks like a t Honda C90 moped has them...actually slightly narrower..front on the Honda is 17x1.2 i think

Since no inserts, I can at least drill out to whatever nipple diameter I need
As for the question of a single cross pattern..highly unlikely that is going to work. A single cross pattern on even a 26 inch MTB wheel with an Xlyte 5xxx motor gives an almost un acceptable spoke exit, it ain't going to work with spokes as short as would be required

All of the MTB rims I have worked with practically force the nipple to point at the center off the wheel, hence the inevitable, extreme spoke tweek when attempting even a 1 cross pattern on the 5 series motors. It appears that the dome shape where the nipples fit in these rims do direct the spokes a few degrees off center..

Image

.. enough to pull off a 1 cross? I am feeling 95% confident it will work, but then again, empirical evidence rules!
This should be fun :)

The inflated height of a 2.50 Gazelle mounted on one of these rims is a hair under 22 inches.

Edit: fixed (measured starting at 1 inch and forgot to add it back :oops: Sorry!)

I put together a mock-up using spokes taken off another wheel and my Clyte HT shell. I only did one side of the motor and rim, but it certainly looks like a 1 cross pattern is doable!

This should also be the case for any of the original - and newer, 5-series C-lyte hubbies -- as well as CroMotors!

What sopksa re they12 gauge?or bigger? I use 12 g on my current build but was going to go for 10 on this 5404 in a 17 inch hub.

With that dimpling in the rim, you may well be correct, the angle of spoke in relation to the dimple looks ok on that last pic.

How snug are those nipples in the holes? wold I get a 10 gauge nipple in there?

These are 12 gauge spokes and they are a very good fit in the motor's flange holes, as are the nipples in the rim.

These rims would definitely need drilling to accept nipples for 10 gauge spokes ..will 10'ers fit in your 5404 flanges?
