Don't know yet..was hoping they would.
I have 12 gauge in my 5304..thought they were a little slack..so hoped 10 would fit....but think it is the same size holes in teh 5404 as in the 5304..but do not know for sure.

Do you have any 10gauge spokes to check for me?

Sorry mate, not a single 10 gauge spoke or X5 in my collection of bits. Have you considered/tried installing brass washers at the flange end of the spokes?

No, it is not the head of the spoke that is too small, that is fine, just the thickness of the spoke through the hole.

Single cross looks like the way to go.

Do you know the spoke length for a setup like you pictured? What would a guy use to thread the ends. I have small taps in both metric and standard sizes. Would they work on 12g ?

Be sure to save me a pair of wheels.

No worries Nick, got a pair of wheels set aside for you :)

Spokes are kind of the final frontier in building ebikes, and bicycles in general. A spoke threading machine rolls a very tight thread pitch into the wire - whereas a die will cut material away -- so tight that I have never found a die with the same thread pitch.

This subject really deserves it's own thread ..hmmm :?

Sorry  bad pun totally NOT intended..

Great find Neil!

I spent half the day documenting modifications made to my Hozan spoke threading tool (they only offer tooling for 14/15 gauge spokes) to roll 12 gauge spokes  Seems obsolete considering this Cyclo unit can be had with the proper 12 gauge thread rolling tool.

Cross 1 spoke length for an H-series rear motor built into one of these rims = 107mm. There is a slight dish, so add 1mm for the drive side spokes and subtract 1mm to the brake rotor side.

Edit: fixed

H-series rear motor:
Hub Flange Diameter = 233mm
Flange Spacing = 33mm
Spoke Hole Diameter = 3.15mm

FEMCO 1.20 X 17 rim:
Effective Rim Diameter = 418.5mm

Do you have one of those Cyclo spoke threaders, Neil? Could you measure the I.D. where the head attaches to the tool shaft?

What is the measurment in mm of the outside of the threaded axel?
I am trying to figure out if these are standard 9mm bike hubs.
I read that the standard quick realease axle fits but am worried that the outside diameter is too wide for standard 9mm fork dropouts.

A 5mm O.D. Quick Release (QR) skewer fits in the front hub, which is 100mm wide ..totally standard bikey stuff.

Where are you getting that 9mm measurement, axle O.D.? Does your front wheel bolt in?

OK, your terminology had me a bit confused, but I get it now. Yes, 9mm is the O.D. of the axle shaft that extends ~4mm from either side of the hub. The skewer fits inside the axle shaft. The picture that you referenced is a peak at the Japanese cartridge bearing under the dust/water cover - which would be the part that fits between your fork's dropouts.

Hope I am explaining it well enough ..did that make sense?

Hi Steve,

The wheels came in and they look great? You did an excellent packing job. You did a good job with the spokes too. Nice threads! Also thank you for labeling the different length spokes (long go to freewheel side).

Did you ever get a chance to try those 3" gazelles on one of these rims?

Thanks again and see you at the next race.

Nick

Hey Nick, glad to hear everything showed up in good condition and to your liking :)
I just finished the mod's to my HT motor, mounted the 3.0 Gazelle rubber, then a 2.5 to the front ..and my 'Borg assimilated them  These wheels look and perform great!!

I am loving my 2.5 gazzelles. Those 3's must be sweeet riding.

How many rims do you have left? I may want another set.

Hey Drew, I sort of expected that mounting the 3.0 Gazelle on this rim would make the tire a little 'poochy' and have a peaky crown, but I was happily disappointed to discover that it actually ended up having a nice profile :)

The combo of this + the 2.5 Gazelle out front feels well planted and rolls into turns predictably ..confidence inspiring.. at my local parking lot GP practice course, I can lean further and carry more speed through sweeping turns than any bicycle wheel/tire I have tried in the past.

There are 4 sets left.

I Steve

Well as it happens, i have been lent one of these tools..but not got around to measuring anything on it yet. I can tell you they do not do 11 g heads for them though...which is a pain...my hub has 1 g spokes...the tool I have, has a 10 gauge head...if I think about it, i'll measure what you ask sometime soon...but poke me via PM if I forget
