Wanted Phase wire

Postby thewall241 » Sun Jan 29, 2012 2:04 pm

Phase wire required for conismotor 48volt motor. Wire needs to handle 100volt 50amp. Anyone have any for sale? or can someone provide me with a link to website.
Cheers

If you want to upgrade te wires out of the axle, your local auto parts store sells some that will work fine, 12 gauge copper would work fine, the shorter the distance the better.

That's how i roll - running 56A / 83v currently on a magic pie.

Pro-tips for noobs: Avoid BMS Battery like the plague | Charge RC Lipos to 4.15v, stop discharging at 3.5-3.6v | Use torque plates/arms! | Rear mounted hubs are always best

Also check out your local electrical supply house. 3-phase 12 guage wire can be gotten, sometimes with a nice silicone insulation. just slice off the outer insulation and use the 3 inner wires.

Buy it by the foot.

And if there are any places for buying recycled house wiring and such, like Stardust Building Supplies here in the Phoenix AZ area does, you can often get it really cheap.

Sometimes you can find good stuff salvaged, too, from discard piles at places that do networking or server setups:

Sorry I don't have a pic of the bare wire, but it's nice stranded copper, not super fine but flexible enough. Ain't gonna fit this cable thru any axle I've seen, though.

Well, there is this pic:

but all you can see is how thick the wire is.

I don't have any good pics of it, but you can also get good teflon wire in usable lengths from aircraft wiring harnesses and test equipment harnesses at various elecronics scrapyards. Sometimes for nearly nothing, depending on how good a friend you can make there, or how interested you can get them in your projects (or how interested you can be in THEIR projects!). :)

Hobbyking has a wide range of wire, for phase wires I use teflon 10 guage from Powerwex (you order both onling from their website). Although it is a pain that it is so stiff, it is the same thickness as 12 guage silicone I find because the teflon is so thin. I run that out of the axle, then move to silicone for the rest of the journey to the controller.

i am like AW, i use whatever i have of stuff i pulled from dumpsters. i have more junk from dumpsters than i have bot.

but you don't need 10 gauge, 12 AWG is fine. i even used solid 12 AWG on my first GM twistoff, but never again, it was too hard to bend inside the hub where the hole turns at 45o to exit the axle. the solid will not bend, but the stranded will.
