Revenge of the Electric car movie is on Hulu

Postby liveforphysics » Wed Feb 01, 2012 1:33 pm

The movie, "Revenge of the electric car" is available on Hulu for a couple of days.

It's not super good, they left out anything technical and made it more of a human-drama, but it's still worth a watch.
For ebike parts, don't be a douche, buy from http://www.ebikes.ca or http://www.MethTek.com

Awesome.

I attempted to 'source' it online a few weeks ago, but sadly it was not available anywhere.

It's pretty good.

+spoiler alert+
There is a certain scene where you're gonna think a lipo fire occurred. You will be relieved it was just arson.

Good thing your lady isn't interested in EVs like mine is. The only thing i can use to shoo her away is to turn on EVTV.. something about Jack Rickard's voice..

haha. She is definitely not into EV related anything. She drives a 12 mpg Landrover LR3 :(

Another reason I cannot go lipo..I need something plug and play for charging to hide it from her.

Thanks for the link. I enjoyed watching/listening to it on the other monitor while I spent another day "doing taxes." I didn't realize how close to bankruptcy Elon Musk came before the feds coughed up a half billion loan to Tesla...

it was only released on DVD last week, that's probably why.

I just saw Who Killed the Electric Car last week. I hope this one is a bit more upbeat.

I just watched it and damn near cried about ten times. I guess I'm just too close to a few of those guys in some way. In some ways it really discouraged me by showing how much money is actually required these days to put a product on the ground in a way that most consumers can afford it. But overall, it encouraged me to keep trying because if the DOE will loan Tesla money, there's no saying that they wouldn't loan some to me. Seeing Gadget's shop all burned up really hit home too. I'm really glad that his community of friends came together and got him going again. He looks like quite the character.

The whole film really puts the economy of scale thing into perspective. I've had quite a few people tell me to put my designs into the open forum so others could help me refine them, then maybe build something for themselves, but that would only get a few bikes out there and not really make a change at all because it would eliminate the profit potential for the future making it highly unlikely that the designs would ever be mass produced. The only way that EV's are going to become commonplace in our society if is people take some big risks and spend the big money to put something super cool out there. I don't think this has really happened in two wheel world yet.

I really felt for Elon with the whole nervous breakdown thing too. I think it's happened to me at least two or three times! I actually had to go to the ER Sunday night because I thought I was having a stroke due to out of control blood pressure....caused by stress. Trying to get any kind of new technology off the ground.... alone, with very little/no money is not a walk in the park!!!
Turn it OFF!!!

Sneaked-in an online viewing during ..ahem... "lunch break".
It's an amazing movie, and badly needed after what we were left with from the first movie....

That Bob is a curious character

I enjoyed the movie during an EV meet even in quebec two weeks ago.

I wonder why they did not talked more about the prius....

What i loved to hear is wwhen they said that one of the important player in that ev revolution IS the diy EV !!!!

It seem that we are having some not negligeable influence.

It's like the 4 theme was:

-The tesla
-The volt,
-The leaf
and us!!! 8)

Not sure what it is. Hope that the big change is coming because it has already started maybe? I enjoyed the movie. There's a scene that moved me. It's about ''Gadget'', the Do It Yourselfer. When the movie shows him going through the wreckage of his burnt garage and home. It looks like everything is lost and he finds a well packaged controller. The controller lights up and you see him, standing in this pile of charred junk, with a twinkle in his eye and a huge smile on his face saying ''with this I can build a new car''. Now that's a man who never gives up. That bathtub Porsche he built is totally awesome.
Is it ready yet?

I really dig how this movie was produced when compared to "who killed the electric car" I really got pumped watching it, but I was kind of hoping theyd work some ebike shit in somehow...

I was underwhelmed with this movie. The most interesting part was seeing how detached from reality Mr. Lutz was.

yeah, I found myself asking the same thing.
The movie sure didn't give me any more confidence in GM or TESLA.
Strangely I found the most "lovable" character "Mr Detroit", but apparently he's out of the GM picture now.

That's right, guys..

Y

They're spelling it out for you, IMO.

Want a job?
DIY

wanna save the economy?
DIY

want an electric car for yourself? like now?
DIY

we can't rely on corporations, they are too big and too slow and have too much to lose.

"Gadget" fell on his face twice with a fire and a bad investment on a toxic dump, He lost some used cars and some equipment, some money and some time, but he's back on this feet. And at the very least, he owns an electric car and saving money.

IMO Tesla was doomed from the beginning for making a luxury car. They should've gone the EV1 economy car route that everyone can afford. Their hearts were in the right place but people with big money think-too-big and will lose big.

One thing (I think) that was never addressed is the battery issue. When we buy ICE cars, we don't buy it along with years' worth of gasoline, right? But when we want to buy an EV, we're obligated to buy years' worth of energy (batteries) . That's the problem for consumers. My only solution is to get EVERYBODY to DIY with the conversion kits and support each other with tips, tricks and services. But the kits have to be good and a above all SAFE.
