i opened up the ECO 6-10 if you want i can post pics but its just the mosfet blown i believe

If you have one i would strongly recommend having a fan on it if you charge past 2 amps

Also they do not like being ran anywhere near their upper input voltage. That is usually what makes them blow. That and disconnecting the battery before you hit 'stop' during a charge.

I've just had my brand new 1010b+ blow the first time I used it to discharge a LiPo. I am running it with a 540w psu outputting 17.1V. What voltage do you suggest turning down to?

I heard of one blowing at 16v once..
So far, lots of use and no problems here at 13.8v..

These do have a 1 year warranty though, maybe you got a defective one?

How long did the discharge go on? i noticed mine gets smokin' hot after about 30 mins :/.. but after many discharges, no problem. Were you using the discharge+ mode by chance?

Nope I was just using the standard discharge on a nano tech 10s.

I am a LiPo noob mind you. First time using the charger to discharge.

I had discharged for about an hour from 4.15v down to 4.1v

I had no idea it would take so long, so I stopped the discharge, changed the watt limit setting from the default 20w up to the max 30w to increase the discharge current to speed it up a bit.

30seconds later there's a popping sound and it no longer charges/discharges. Connection breakdown error.
Still reads the balance voltage fine.

I'm going to send it back to HK, but that does leave me without a charger.....

30W .... i don't know why they even allow the user to select that option! it is already very hot at 20W.
I set mine to 25w, and have only used the discharge option for ~30 mins at a time..
That is in a cold room during the winter tho..

What you will want to use as a discharger is 2x 50W halogens hooked up in series..
Or even faster, 2 in parallel, 2 in series.

On 10S, 2S1P will give you about a 3.8A draw constant.. many times more faster than the iCharger ( or any other balancing charger ). 2S2P will double that obviously.. Use this + monitor mode on the iCharger to graph out your cells on discharge.. no, it won't count mAH, but you can count that while charging up...

So here's the pep talk about the iChargers since you are prolly not too happy about it right now
they are the only chargers that can be calibrated and come in good calibration in the first place.
Hyperions can be a little off some times, and there is no way to calibrate them, AFAIK.

Not sure if you browsed through the manual or not, but they do basically everything....
Avoid the discharge+ mode when you get yours back.

Thanks for that link neptronix, my icharger cames with some rubber feet as it happens, maybe this is a new thing.

Right so I need to:

knock the voltage way down to around 13.8
leave the watt limit setting on default 20
ensure great ventilation around charger base
Monitor internal temp
