I sure don't see how the display can control max amps when it doesn't have a way to read the amp draw. Maybe it wants you to enter the amp rating of your controller so it can estimate amp draw from the voltage drop. However it would also have to know battery chemistry and pack Ah in order to even come close. :|

If anyone wants to know how to hook up a real Cycle Analyst up to one of these sensored controllers, just let me know as I just got mine back from Justin. Justin has already posted on how to hook up one of his CA to the Clyte sensorless controllers.

The device is just programming the current limit on the chip in the controller... same as the Keywin software does.

well color me dumb... :)

But how does the chip know what is going on and when to limit amps without knowing what is happening with amp draw? Is there a magic shunt tap? There sure as hell wasn't one on the controller that Kenny sent me.

Please remember that I know squat about this shit.

This is a sensored controller for a ht3525 kit that Kenny sent me direct a few weeks back that came a plug for his new display.

The black box programs the chip in the controller
The controller reads the shunt to know what is going on.
So the black box is not actually controlling anything in real time - it is just programming constants into the controller chip which does have access to the shunt and speed.

The Black box does not know what the current or power is at any time. (its great weakness)
It is however capable of setting the *current limits*

This feature of the black box is actually quite cool - I might even get one just so that I can program on the fly.
It however is not a replacement for the CA since it does not read Amps and therefor can not log Ah, Wh, Watts, wh/mile, etc.

You see those blue and green wires in the middle at the bottom?
That is the programming port for the microcontroller.

Very clever really....

It still seems REALLY wierd that they'd come up with something so useful, then negate much of it's potential by leaving out a simple connection to the shunt, plus the electronics/programming to do wattmeter stuff. :(
