EVT-168 Motor Brush Replacement

Postby granolaboy » Thu Mar 15, 2012 7:29 pm

Hey guys,

My roommate is looking at a used EVT 168, but the motor needs new brushes.

Has anyone done a brush replacement, especially on one of these motors? Where's a good place to order them from?

thanks!

I'd check with Electric Motorsport
http://www.electricmotorsport.com/store/ems_ev_parts.php

They used to sell those, so may have a source for the brushes. To replace the brushes, you need to remove the rear wheel and take apart the hub as far as I can remember. Those guys can probably tell you the procedure as well.

I'd suggest taking it apart and checking the brushes first before ordering. Brush dust has a tendency to build up inside and short the commutator segments. A good cleaning is all that is needed many times.

Check out the V is for Voltage forum on the EVT168. I remember a thread there about brush replacement for that scooter. Also, they have a wiki specifically for maintaining and modding that model. visforvoltage.com
