Zero MX smokes gas bikes at local race...

Postby emotofreak » Wed Mar 21, 2012 2:56 am

Trevor smoked 'em out of the gates and lead the C Open class until he ran outta battery just shy of a full lap (~8 miles in 1/2 hour). It was a wild mud-fest, bikes going down left and right. The light and nimble Zero really shined in these conditions. Just needed a little more energy(or a little less mud). GoPro footage to follow shortly.

Really?
Compairing an ellectric holeshot against a gate full of ice's on a dead engine start? (typicle for a hare scramble) no compairison. He shoulda been further out in front than he was!

Mad props for taking it to the track & getting it seen though. I would love to see an urban space with a lighting & charging station....& a whol pack of e-motocrossers fighting it out on a thursday night. No noise, cheap fuel, it would be a great thing.

Maybe he could run the race ala Formula 1. Just come in for a pit stop and 4 seconds later you have a new battery!

Great start but typical of the battery tech we are stuck with at the moment. Half an hour of full bore and that's it!

I love electric but we still can't compete with ICE for things like off road riding- I usually go out for an hour or more on my off road mx bike.

Oh it's a dead engine start :) That explains it. It still seems like with all the mud that thing handles really well.

Trev rocks.

He is a God on 2 wheels. It is such a pleasure to work with him, the man has never disapointed me in anything, ever. Cant ask for more than that.

No hubmotors lol.

Thats a bone-stock 2012 Zero MX, same exact thing you can just go to your local dealer and buy.

Electric is the future. Im actually starting to pitty gas bikes.

perfect example of " dont matter how much power you got if you canot control it " ..

Imagine the leg pain from kick starting the gas bikes everytime they wipe out and stall out.. no flood, no stall, no clutch..

Did it make it to the end before running out of power ?

I bet the GoPro video would go viral if it was shortened and the part where there is mud on the camera was cut out. Oh people will also want to see from the start how many CCs the other bikes had or the closest contenders.
(lol youtube is down right now "Http/1.1 Service Unavailable")

Always time to up the anti:) A heavy vehicle helps..
That was actually a bit poor, it was near 0 degrees in the winter and the pack sagged so bad the current limiter kicked in. I'll try and get up the courage for a full 300kw run now weather has warmed up;)

If you do a shortened version of the vid be sure to keep the clip of the guy stopping and toppling off into the mud. In fact, that deserves to be "giffed" and put on the "funny gif/pic" thread:D

Appaerntly, I am the only one who noticed it was a dead engine start LOL!
Trev shouldve have had his battery unplugged to make it more of a race.

A Zero needs to last for a full 15min amature moto. Untill then, it is only a curiosity.

That bike did one lap on the hare scramble course. prolly woulda done better in the dry....but those are 3-hour timed event

I really want to take a few laps on one & see how it really rates.

If it woulda been a bit less muddy, he would have made the full lap. The plan was to swap batteries every lap. With the pace he was setting I'm pretty sure he would have dominated the race even with battery swaps. There is another race, weekend after next. We shall see :)

  Luke that was #amazeballs   very cool, those Zero bikes are great, I love their road bike too they can do no wrong in my eyes and I agree this video if edited up shorter with some cuts to clean photos of the bike and the specs would be very cool indeed, pretty sure that Zero are doing quite well at the moment, they are certainly a pretty big player from what I can tell?

When I win the lotto I am going to have 10 of those bike on my custom track

It's true, electric vehicles start up much quicker and much more consistently! Advantage -> Emoto
The motos don't have their fuel lines or anything unplugged before the start of the race, they're just slow to start :P

Had he paced him self a bit in the sections where there was traffic he would have made the full lap.
