Modded 12fet Infineon

Hi Everyone,

I decided to beef up my 12 FET Lyen edition controller yesterday.

Boy is it a pain, it takes ages to make sure there are no shorts anywhere. I had to get a loan of a good hot iron as my one was not up to the task and cutting up wire and bend it to the correct size!

I beefed up the traces with wire and solder, and soldered up the shunt.

It's pulling 4800 watts max (about 80 amps) on acceleration compared to 3kw stock, I saw a peak of 107 amps on the cycle analyst, that's about 6400 watts or 8.5 HP

The difference is amazing and it's probably about the max I would push the 12 fet, but there is really no need for more power, I would rather a lower riding bike with full suspension for this kind of power, being so high up isn't such fun and the battery at the back!

I'm really appreciating having gone LiPo, this kind of power in a small 10ah pack is amazing and not really possible with anything else!

The controller was cool, the phase wires were hardly warm, (god bless that alpha ecowire) the 30amp andersons were warm I would have to watch them climbing a hill for a while, the motor was hardly warm, you can dump amazing power into this pie, but for how long I don't know yet but for normal riding a few hills it's fine, climbing 16% at this power level in a 26" wheel I wouldn't, not without drilling the covers!

It's a shame though all you get is 30 mph amx at 60 volts, with sensors I got 35, a faster wind would be nice!

I would love to compare the HS3540 to the pie at this power level, but I hear the HS can't take a lot of power ? I think it's cromotor territory for the next high power motor ?

Any pics? Better yet, any liks o a decent 'how to...' thread?

I really want to do this to my 12 fet, but dont really know where to start! I am inspired though, 107 amps!

No I never took pics, it was a spur of the moment thing!

I didn't replace the phase or battery wires and they have good air flow to help keep cool. I don't have any issues with heat but I only pull max amps on acceleration and on really steep grades in the woods. You might want to upgrade the phase and battery wires if you were to be pulling those currents for longer than a few seconds.

It's a good match for the pie as that 5kw gives it tonnes of torque just where I need it for the woods. The hills are really steep, so much that I'm afraid of falling backwards, they are short enough, so I'd be pulling max amps for 30 seconds maybe a little more.

For road use It would rarely be a problem. The controller is still working fine.

When I get my mac back on the road I'll take a few pics!

Turn it back down to 50 amps and it will last at least a few weeks.
Turn it OFF!!!

LOL it's already lasted a lot more than a few weeks.

I thought it would have been toast by now!
