Thinkin' most of these folks are using off-the-shelf props "geared" to gas motor RPMs... higher reduction ratio and increasing pitch would cut tip speeds/noise. If most of these eppg developers have a gas motor history they're probably thinking this is "quiet"

true, less vibration also probably...

from that video, they are probably wearing noise canceling headset anways,

the good part is they can just get off the throttle and take off the headset in the air and enjoy the sound of the wind for a while,
bit more a hassle with gas ppg....

Now here's something to consider,
if e-ppg can be superquiet,
I can see e-ppg pilots wanting to flying in non-powered paragliding spots,
chances of that happening in US is probably slim to none,
maybe in Europe.. with less liability issues...

I flew non-powered hangliders in the mid 90's for about year,
fun experience but the always sinking feeling and getting airsick from circling thermals were the negatives. (also lack of local spots)
My local spot was a short 7 min ride from the top of the mountain, rare thermals due to the inversion layer of the Silicon Valley.

If I do it over again, I would paraglide, carrying that 60lb hanglider around was a pain in the ass.

Have a bunch of friends that are crazy about everything that flies, PPGs as well. They usually fly in remote location not because of "romanticism" expressed in one of the videos, but not to annoy people around. Almost every time they start being noisy in populated area, they end up meeting local police, so to avoid that they fly far from civilization or try to fly very high which isn't funny (you can not feel any speed) and gas/time inefficient the ascending speed is usually low. We are thinking to make electric one, but need some one to take care of all that aero propelling stuff.
Have no hurry, I usually stay down and drink beer, only in for parachute jumping.

In the United States that's just how it's supposed to be. These would be called Ultralights, you only fly those where there's NOBODY around, although people fudge that a bit. No pilots license or airframe certification required if the vehicle itself is under 254 pounds, but people fudge on that, too.

Paraglided for many years until an ankle injury in '06 grounded me for awhile. Still think about paragliding almost every day and hope to get back into it someday. If I were to go electric PPG I'd do the Skywalk E-Walk system. Flew a Skywalk Tequila 2 for a long time so am a bit biased towards their products, but they do cool stuff.

Yeah, I found the University of Toronto one in the course of trying to corroborate the hoax one. It's pretty cool and an impressive technical achievement, but it looks about as fun to fly in as all the other human-powered aircraft I've seen-- which is to say, not fun.
