My first go at an ebike was the same bike just a different kit ..it was one of these kits http://www.cyclone-usa.com/ It was alright but got a little warm and blow fuses all the time bit of a pain in the arse . This Ezee kit is pretty good i must say on the flate i get up too 40km/h which is a good enough speed for me .My old kit only manage an average 30km/h if i went to a higher gear she would blow a fuse .

The bike looks great! Where did you get the ezee hub? I didn't know they were making a rear hub. If anyone else out there knows an honest shop where I can order one or another small direct drive hub please let me know. My last rear hub was a disappointment but I've heard great things about the ezee!

Ive recently purchased a kit from hyena and thought id put up a photo of what ive done with it..

The battery pack and charger is in the bag which I simply connect to the controller when im on the bike
I still need to get a saddle bag which I will attach to the seat so I can hid the controller.

HI guys,

Well, after much procrastination , I finally got around to posting my build. If you'll recall, I was starting out with an old 1985 CCM 6-speed mountain bike which had been sitting in a shed for about 15 years. So, without further ado, here she is:

It's a rear 9C kit powered by a 48V Lithium-Polymer pack carried on the rear rack. I could have mounted a large pack within the frame triangle, but since I have to carry the bike up and down a 4 step stoop, I needed the pack to be removable so I would be able to lift the bike. After replacing the tires, adding a new chain, brake pads (I also checked the brake levers with a magnet and it turns out they ARE metal, coated in black plastic) and hubs (the bearings were shot), I replaced the old aluminum rack with a stronger steel one and added fenders. The performance is amazing! Very torquey, and I've had the bike up to 43 Km/h. I ordered the kit through Ypedal from Ebikes.ca. He also helped me with the installation and setup. He even built my battery pack for me.

If anyone here has a spare set of cranks for a vintage square taper bottom bracket.. this bike needs a new set. the crank arms are bent making pedaling a real whopper of a time.. pedals are also not the best.. the entire cranks, pedals and BB need overhauling if you happen to have an old scrapper gathering rust .. open invite to take them off your hands !!

Well, I finally found a replacement crankset at the local bike shop....a little shorter than the originals ( I think something like 160 mm instead of 165). I just hope they'll fit. Should find out this weekend (they're calling for rain so it'll be a perfect time to do some work on the old bike). Can't wait to go for a test ride....I just hope the bottom bracket is still holding up. I had enough trouble finding a set of cranks, I can just imagine what a bottom bracket's gonna be like...Sheesh!

Speed on flat without pedals ~37 kmh, with pedals up to 52, Range on asphalted roads ~60km. Weight 26kg.

First version, 2003 Rocky Mountain Edge X-country bike[but with jumper fork],MXUS geared mini-motor, 48 Volt 8aAh " rack battery", "Stand Alone" Cycle Analyst, Cycle Lumenator.Tiny stock controller was hidden under the seat. Pretty much "plug and play". Only the frt motor fitment took some time. Top speed, no wind, no pedal is 24 mph. Jives well with my stubby legs and the Edge's stock 11/44 gearing.

Changed over to "Lipo in the bag". The Lyen senorless "Mini-Monster" 23 Amp controller first went in the frame bag, but got a little hot for my liking, so I drapped it over into the bag's mesh side pocket. A piece of intertube covers the connectors and the shiney controller is wrapped in a piece of speaker grill cloth.

I thought I would try Lyen's custom left-side half-twist throttle. Two thumbs up![thumbs are happy, no more pushing or pulling ] Note "hair tie"parking brake. Looking for thick O-ring to go between half throttle and grip to serve as crude cruise control[All the old timey auto parts stores are gone for my area ]. Several attemps to install a stand have proved fruitless, just no way to attach anything.

Standard automotive 30 Amp toggle for power. EV Falcon bags have "button-hole"[slit]openings at both ends for convience. EV Falcon bags are awesome!

I don't go fast or far, just tool around in the 10 to 20 mph range, so I don't need much of a pack. Just a simple 12S1p 5000 mAh. At bicycle speeds I get at least 3 miles per Ah. Since the frame bag is not stuffed with Lipo, I carry my lock, poncho, tool kit, etc in the frt. half. If I need a more range, I have another 12S1P pack that I carry in the otherwise empty tail bag. I lost 1 mph top speed going from 48V Li-Mn to 44.4V Lipo.

Going from a 17A controller to a 23A model makes throttle control and frt. tire traction an ever present concern. The throttle can be abrupt[I may limit current with the CA] and the 900 or so Watts is about the limit of what I think is relalistic for a frt. mount on a MTB with a skinny road tire. On any surface other than dry pavement, it really wants to spin.
So..,to address those traction issues,... I've started work on version 2.0 + 2.0

I have a Catrike Expedition (Candy Purple). Started out with Scwalbe Marathon Racers, SRAM Rival 10 speed groupo, TT500 thumb shifters, GXP bottom bracket, Truvative Elita 165 mm cranks 28/39/52T Truvative chainrings.

I added a GM 48V hubmotor, Stand Alone CA, 7 speed gear cluster (11/32T) SRAM 7.0 Grip Shifters and a 48V 48Ah 30C Lipo battery, Krispysteve neck rest, Axiom bags all a round.Next week it will get a tinted Windrap XT fairing and Catrike side bags, to hide the controller in, instead of the top bag, which will go away to improve the aero of the ride. Also a custom made 45 in. flag to give the cages a bit of warning.
