Lipo From HK Came Fast

Postby boppinbob » Fri Apr 13, 2012 5:58 pm

I ordered a 5s8Ah zippy on Monday and it was in my mailbox Friday. I live in the US and now they have a US warehouse. One cell though was out of balance by .03v I'm discharging and balancing the pack now. As for the pack it is replacing that is only 5 months old I could save the other 4 cells for replacement. (which is what I should do) or I could charge to 4.2 per cell and take it to the boonies and test it's incendiary properties with this...

Of course I will report back to ES members with a video of the test.

hah!

Actually i keep those packs with a funky cell in 'em around for the future, when a cell goes bad a few hundred cycles down the line. Maybe cherry pick a few cells out and keep them around.. just an idea :)

The girlfriend bike: 350W front MAC on a 700c Trek.
The wheelie machine: 20" Rear Magic Pie II on a Trek 4300 MTB
The Bus: ??? on a 'da bomb' cargo bike frame

Pro-tips for noobs: Avoid BMS Battery like the plague | Charge RC Lipos to 4.15v, stop discharging at 3.5-3.6v | Use torque plates/arms! | Rear mounted hubs are always best

I don't understand.

You have a old pack that is only .03V out of balance and you are going to toss it?

Sorry, I didn't write my post very well. The new pack that is replacing the old pack has a cell that is .03v out.

That still seems off...

Did you balance the 'bad' pack? did you do a discharge graph and otherwise rule it out as bad another way? Going off what you're saying, it sounds like you're giving an innocent man a death penalty..

Yeah waste not want not. Besides, I might even try a lipo cell swap. I've watched ypedal's lipo vids. Not that that experience will be needed when we all switch to hydrogen fuel cells. It's like when I invested a lot of time learning DOS commands. Useless now.
