Being honest, the Hannebrink thing looks terrible. It gives the game away and apart from its excellent off-road capabilities, I can't see why anyone would be into it. If I was rich I would have one, but in the meantime.....

Wait a second John.... Are you saying this hubmotor has a 270mm stator diameter that is 50mm wide???????

This would make it something I must have.... I need one... This has insane potential.

Going to make it a mid drive?

Batteries of all kinds need respect they can burn your house down, so don't sleep with them under your bed or any other were you cant afford smoke or fire!

No need. I worked the numbers on it, and if I'm understanding him correctly, and it's really 270mm stator with 50mm width, it's capable of higher thrust than my deathbike!!!

For the record, we measured the stator recently when we opened up this beast to ventilate it.
It is indeed 270mm x 50mm...

We completed the beautification and wiring of the bike yesterday, and have gotten a few test rides in. The torque is tremendous. It is certainly the quickest machine I have ever driven.
The 36fet with 4110s was getting pretty hot  , so we wired in a 12v source for the fan, and have been fiddling with the programming. The motor is staying totally cool to the touch, so I can't wait until we can feed it properly. It's already scary fast as-is.

The locals are going NUTS over the bike. We get whistles and shouts on literally every street. I like to think it's because of the aluminum air scoops I made for the swingarm. Functional AND sexy. People have followed Dad to the store just to ask where they can get one. And when he tells them that he built it, they walk away even more impressed. The bike looks really good now, and I am sure Dad will be posting pictures and info soon for everyone to drool over.

Once we get the controller calibrated properly, I will be making a SuperV vs. Clown Bike video. Dad's 260lb load on SuperV against my 175lb load on Clown (hitting 10kW), and it still won't be a close race. But it will be a good video at least...

Sheriff got an overhaul 103mph on 30s

Postby John in CR » Sun May 19, 2013 2:22 pm

Not a typo, yes SuperV powered by HubmonsterHE hit 103mph (166kph) today. The video is crap, so I need to do another one for you guys before I take it down to 25s, which will be more than fast enough for me. Too low of partial duty is causing too much heat in the controllers and motor to be a long term solution with this wheel size. High voltage with Hubmonster really needs to be done as a mid-drive, and I recently picked up an extra for exactly that. I think with gearing to 75mph max, then I'll be able to boost current up nice and high with no heat issues and greater efficiency.

In the meantime here's what 103mph is like on an ebike. I don't care how janky Chalo thinks it is.

Love them racing boots.

When is the young stud, Jenka, going to start getting interested in the bikes ?

That's beyond awesome! No idea how I missed this thread???

Someone beat me to it but nice sandals. I've been wearing the exact same kind for a couple of months now, mainly to discourage myself from trying to do anything too fast or work too hard! lol!

More exposed makes you more careful. That's simple fact. Plus my feet are so used to flops that they don't like the confines of shoes. They feel smothered, so I'd have to be doing something requiring steel toed boots to change my footwear.

Since you were here I let the kids ride Wahoo, my mid-drive. They were into it for a while, but not all that interested. I just don't understand, because if my father was into ebikes I would have bugged him every day, all day, until I had one, and I would ride it to death. That's how I got a gokart when I was 6.

After my post I remembered why I let this thread die last year, because I changed motors. The original motor was like a Magic Pie with a 50mm stator and wound with 1.5 turns. Due to the poor iron it has heat issues above about 1krpm. Starting last July I began using HubmonsterHE, a high efficiency 6 phase hubbie. While it has a similar Kv at 16rpm/volt, it's pole count almost 3 times lower and much better design and quality of steel combine to make it capable of 2krpm without issue. The smaller stator diameter is only partially made up by being 58mm wide, but what it lacks in raw torque, it more than makes up for in power potential. As a mid-drive it could easily handle 200V and 50kw input.

Sorry if I've caused any confusion, but SuperV is really the sheriff, and I'll put it up against any hubmotored bike or motorcycle under 200lb for street racing, and SuperV weighs only 137lb. Show me another hubmotored bike that a 270lb fat guy can take to the store for groceries and on the return hop on the highway and break 100mph that doesn't weigh 400lbs or more and cost $5k or more with DIY. Even if there is one that can hit 100, I bet SuperV would run rings around it on the street. It's the closest you can get to Luke's ebike with a hubmotor.
