Powerlab 8 confusion...

Postby x88x » Sun Apr 22, 2012 11:19 am

So, I picked up a Powerlab 8 on Jozzer's recommendation, and I'm trying to set it up to do some stress tests on the 5kWh of Turnigy lipo I have sitting here.. :D

Running into a problem though. I tell it to discharge at 40A, it immediately goes to ~4.6A, then very, very slowly increases...it's been 8 minutes now, and it's only up to 4.98A. ...wtf?

That's designed to discharge at 100W. You can set the current to anything you want, if its over 100W, it will be limited to 100W.

It will regenerative discharge up to 1,000W. You might want to take a peek at the user manual.

Ah, ok, that explains it. I'll get it set up with a battery to work off of once it drops down.

And yes, I have the users manual, just haven't gotten through all 86 pages yet.

That's a great charger if they made a 10s Powerlab I would get that but my next charger has to be able to do 10s to make my charging life much easier.

Probably will go with a cellpro 10s personally.

AND it will only do about 600 watts if on 12v battery. It needs two batteries for max capabilities. If you do a heavy discharge from lipos MAKE SURE 12V BAT ARE NOT AT FULL CHARGE cause it still won't do the max. check your settings in the menu. Cass

Thanks for the tip. Am actually running it off a 6S3P pack of 5Ah Zippy's, so had to tweak the setting a bit for the input pack. ;)
