The National Capital Commission is banning the larger electric powered bikes from its pathways.
The federal agency said the "scooter-type" e-bikes can weigh between 60 and 120 kilograms, so they pose a danger to pedestrians, cyclists and other pathway users.
The ban includes bike lanes and multi-use trails in Gatineau Park and parkways closed during Sunday bikedays or Saturday short loop programs.
The NCC said smaller power-assisted bikes, which resemble traditional bikes and don't have fairings, would still be allowed.
The new rule will also not apply to wheelchairs and three- and four-wheel electric scooters used as a personal mobility aid.
