Ok so tuesday I am taking Vern the guy who started all of this and gordo to http://www.canev.com/ which is only 20 min away. We are going to get some ideas and meet the owner Randy so we can tell him what we are up to. Here is a couple more pictures of what we are working on. We are hoping to make the s10 into a drag truck over the next few years.

Randy the owner has been doing this for a long time and its pretty awesome to see how his hole life surounds this stuff. He is the kinda guy who we need for helping along with the electric revalution!

Here is some neet pics.

Most those projects are From Randy and more along the lines of been there done that.... Nothing in my world is stand by its all make progress as I/we can.
Gordo was helping us find the place and he has known Randy for a while so it was good to have someone who can justify us being there.

Did my frog toque give me away?   I've been following Randy's builds for 10+ years. His prices on batteries and parts are great for us, as his volume buying and being local make for low end cost. Shipping adds a lot if we buy elsewhere.

Arlo,
That scooter rear axle you were moving around in the basement, might be good for something with the kid builds? It has a sprocket and differential on it.

Maybe... I can't remember it what is it from? I will tell Vern. I think we have a good game plan for now. We should have the bar-stool done in the next week or two then We will get onto my dune buggy and once done that the S10? We are having good feedback from people who might be able to find us big brushed motors from Hysters..... We will see how this year plays out! Once I get colossus working at its full potential I will put it in my dune buggy and let the kids see if there is something else we can use the brushed motor you gave me. That all is If I can get it working!

Ok so I spent some time this last week rebuilding the golf cart motor and adding a cooling fan with some hubby style cooling holes ;) Sorry I never got a picture of the brush wires and inside the brush cover after rebuilding it. The brushes were not even fully seated this motor was originally low hours im pretty sure.

I also took some of the shop where he winds motors man 5 years ago I would say boring. But now... IM jealous! Look at how he has it set up! And it would be awesome if we could use the winding machine for brushless motors! Its pretty sweet as it turns out Neil the shop owner (Burwood's Electric Motor Service) Has a kid at the tuesday night drag race hi thing. And he gave me his ATV to fix so I can make a bit of money and we are trading a bit for free stuff in the future! He scored me the cooling fan and a few things. INCL a 1 wave rectifier that might be good for a quick charging setup!

Ok so I got a ALtrax dcx controller and a couple I can try to fix for a good price. The Altrax DCX is for a shunt wound motor... Meening the feild coil is powered sepratly from the brushes. But I am now second guessing my self thinking the motor might be a series wound motor.... Not sure but Gordo said the motor reversed to make the golf kart go backwards. The only two ways a seires motor can do this are to change brush timing 90 electrical deg. Or to disconect the feild coils from the brushess and hook them in series the other direction. Here is some pics. The inductance of the feild coil post mesured 25uH and the brush posts mesured 280uH

With sub 150vdc batteries, the shock hazard makes no difference if they are capable of delivering 1million amps or 1amp. It only pulls what your bodies resistance can draw, which will be tiny unless you've pierced the skin and gone into the blood which conducts well. (and even then, very high current shocks rarely kill as often as low current shocks)

I touch <150vdc batteries capable of 1,000's of amps on a daily basis. I can't even feel a tingle from under 60-70vdc, even if my fingers are wet.

The risk is arc-flash blinding and burning kids. Or if you're using lead, the risk of kids splashing acid in their eyes or cells exploding when shorted.
For ebike parts, don't be a douche, buy from http://www.ebikes.ca or http://www.MethTek.com

When I built my first electric winch, I was regularly shocked on only 24v, two truck flooded acid in series. But this was with chassis connected to negative, and with bare feets and hands in salted water ;)

Thanks Bro. We are using the odd lead battery to get a project fired up. But we are planing for nano techs or what every has the best power density when we order them. I will use some of my hardcase pacs to get things running too. I tried touching 50v tonight and nothing so then I licked my fingures and still nothing so thats good! I will show them some "Demonstrations" so they know to be carfull. I already hooked the controler up wrong in a hurry on the barstool and got a big bright pop at 24v so they saw one mistake. But vern said with the last set of kids he got them all under the drag car to change the stater and got them to wear there glasses and delibratly shoted the wrench to the positive and the frame lol he said instantly they were gone about 20 feet back and running lol. But shit like that will stick in there heads. So I might have to stage a conector "POP" Ill try to use some old lipo incase shit realy gets out of hand.

On another note the 225 amp 50v curtis I got cheep is now a 60v500 amp all for the price of 11 50v mosfets and 11 46 ohm gate resistors. Got to love curtis for making there controllers this way!
Tested it tonight and spun the buggy up to > 85mph!!!

you can get a shock from a 1.5V as soon as a significant inductance (like motor windings for example...) are involved. Such a shock would typically be a little surprising and very short duration, most unlikely to do any harm. What an inductor does is described by the equation
E = L * di/dt
L is the inductance and di/di is the rate of change of current. In a typical scenario the victim will pull apart a connection carrying some battery amps through a motor winding. The inductance of said winding suddenly sees the current dropping FAST and generates a really big voltage to try to keep it going. This voltage is across the connection just separated and gives the victim a minor belt (may also generate quite an impressive spark).
Said victim will evermore swear blind he got a nasty shock off 1.5 volts......

Ok so I manged to get the gearing set up for around 40mph top speed. And I got the buggy running then took it down and let all the kids do one quick test. They love it. All of them notice how smooth it is! And they like the fact its quiet and smooth. But they all got a surprise with the power. It goes 0-~40 in ~2 seconds! It hooks up realy well because of the rear swing arm like an old ladder bar suspension muscle car!. This thing RIPS! I cant wait to make it faster. It almost wheelies with me in it! I will try to get a good video soon.

Arlo1, I'm glad to see you got this thing up and running. When I was talking to you on the phone you were in a bit of a hurry so I'm glad to see it worked out really well. I want to see some video of this thing tearing around, sounds like a lot of fun :D
