That SkyHobby motor is NOT 8085, it's 80100. SkyHobby does not show the 8085kv250, but they do have the 8085 kv170 that's also still available at LeadersHobby, etc. (Wish THAT had been the $50/motor) And all I would mean by discontinued was that Leaders might not plan to carry the kv250 anymore. I'm sure there'll be motors of some similar style remaining available, but to replace a kv250 in the future with a kv170 would throw gear ratios out of whack.

The 80100 that you posted SkyHobby wanted $106 for, versus $122 at Leaders. HobbyKing was cheapest, but since there's no sign mine will ever come, it's worth a few bucks more if someone else will just SEND IT.

Just looking that this I impulsively ordered an $8 motor that's more powerful than any of the heavy metal motors in my current scooters, I'm sure replacements for them are all around $70-80. Plus a $12 RC controller. Let's see how this does on a bike.

IDGAF what the price is at this point. Sky Hobby is reliable and always in stock. I have also received motors from HK and Leader Hobby. So far my best experience has been with Sky Hobby and will be where I order from next. I only buy these for cores to rewind.

E-racer wrote:$150 was with EMS shipping. They are just a distributor. you can actually get an 80-100 from them from 2 different manufactures, Aeolian and ATN. They did not have any black Aeolians in stock so I went with the standard orange ATN/EMP/Turnigy.

Those Aeolians are much better looking than the Turnigys IMO. But they are a little different... Do they perform just like an 80100?

I have been asking for the Aeolian motors for 6months or so and i have never been able to get one nore would they send me actual photos of one as the photos they have on the site do not match the dimensions of the motor at all :(.

But i have received afew of the EMP 80-100 motors which are the same as the Turnigy ones and they have always been good. Be careful on the batteries tho as i bought 3 different types of batteries in one go and they were only half capacity because they had been sitting for so long.

I have not spooled it up yet but from what I can tell via visual inspection the quality is on par with what HobbyKing is selling (if they had it in stock that is).
I'm not sure what I'm going to use it for at this point in time but it should make for a drop-in replacement for the C80100 as it uses the same end plate with matching mounting holes and the same shaft diameter (12mm). I will have to rewind it of course.

you could always just reterminate it to save some time... that'd give you just under 150kv. close enough to the 80100?

Not a bad idea. I may give that a try although at 150kV that would still be about double of the rewound 80100 I am currently running at 72V. I could reconfigure the pack to 12S from 18S and run the reterminated 8085. I have the required gearing available as well. A good option nonetheless.
Thanks.

I don't get this...using a motor designed for a radio-controlled plane on a ebike? the specs don't list torque either or was this motor already used on an ebike? and tested

oh yea, been done, and then some... torque is a function of rpm's and power output. And since you can (within reason) gear the motor down to whatever rpm's you want on your bike, then a 6kw RC motor like these can output the same torque as any other 6kw motor. Do a search for 80100 or 8085 or 6374 builds, theres dozens on 'ere.

Mine package with 2x 8085 arrived ))

So, what about re-terminating to WYE ? Anybody tried to disassemble ? What about glue on windings ?

Ive stripped a couple for re-winding.
They have the typicle super glue on the endwinds. re-terminating to wye is doable. (but still not acceptable for my standards)

I really think these are some aged shelf stock, or a lot of assemblies from odds & over runs of previous stock. The flux can end bells are the older machine pattern we saw branded as HXT motors(pre-skirt bearings) & the stator cap is a transitional part that has the wire chanell flaw the old HXT's had that will let wires touch the flux can & get sawn in 1/2, yet has the newwer machining pattern we saw on the Turnigy branded motors (that held wires captive to stop the potential contact)

A couple with notchy feeling bearings in them also (typicle quality from this factory)
over all I am happy with the lot....I will blueprint the Lot & flip em.

WARNING!! BEWARE OF THIS SCAMMING COMPANY.

Don't order from leaderhobby (http://www.leaderhobby.com/). They won't refund you when they cannot deliver their items. You only get meaningless e-mails. I'm now waiting for much more than two week for refunding on my PayPal account and reminded them at least every 2nd day. Also don't order from dealmetic.com because this is the same people. If you are interested in more details, write me an e-mail: jvogel@vetphys.uzh.ch

wait... a scamming company that sends people the motors they order? often very quickly? what? I've never asked for a refund (never had too) but I've ordered about 8 motors from these guys over about 3 or 4 orders, all have been delivered quickly and in good order. So NO, they are not scammers, and in my experience their customer service has been fine when it came to cancelling a wrong order I'd made.

And you wont win yourself many friends here being that your first post was to bag a well known good source of motors.

Yeah, I brought that up a few weeks ago. I can't help but wonder how it is their site is still there, seems like there would be ZERO sales at this point. I guess it'll take months to see what comes of them. And they never did get the 8085 kv250 in stock again.

Fair call mate! There prices have always gone up and down but over 200 for a 6374 is insane! So glad i stockpiled a handfull of 63 and 80 series motors now! I notice too that ebay, which was another good source of 63 size motors now has very few selling, and those that do are about 190. Ive seen minimum prices over 120 before, and its come back down... Hopefully its not the end of the cheap big outrunners.
