I am perplexed and intrigued. I just got my Fighter motor back from Stealth after an axle & bearing replacement. I put it back together yesterday & went for a quick spin. Felt great but there was one thing, it felt quicker. Put it down to my imagination. Today I went for a proper ride and it IS quicker. A lot quicker according to the CA.

81.7 kph - 50.7 mph on flat ground after the repairs...66 kph - 41.5 mph before. I can't explain it...some may say my herbal tea is too strong but the CA doesn't lie...or does it? Any explanations that anyone can think of?

On further thought it sounds suspiciously like my no load speed or some kind of spike in the CA...probably the placebo effect.

Got a picture of your stealth rack remf ? Is it along the lines of the one Paul G posted above ? I've been looking at the gripsport one but didn't realise stealth made one too. Theirs is probably the better option as you know it's made to take the weight of a bomber. That said there's bugger all to them and it's not exactly rocket science, just as long as it's sturdy enough.

I suspect your "axle" replacement included a new stator as well! Pressing out the axle to swap it (was your old one bent?) and associated messing around is fairly labour intensive and I'd think if the guys were busy it'd be more cost effective to whip the bolts out of one side covers and drop a whole replacement stator in. 10 minutes later and you're done.
81 seems a bit too fast for a stock fighter though even with the high speed wind. Did you actually see that speed while riding ? It wasn't a peak reading during wheel spin, full throttle while jumping or otherwise freewheeling at WOT with the wheel off the ground ?

Sorry mate I can't find a photo and it's a long way away but Paul's one looks really good and rated to 500 lb. My one doesn't have a ramp, has a solid tray but limited to 200 lb from memory.

Now that you mention it, I think the axle is a transplant from one that was smoked, so probably not a new stator. The speed reading is weird, must have been those full throttle stoppies:) Can't see the CA while riding.

60 or 70 kph is probably fast enough for me but the ability to do it off-road like you do with your H40 Fighter or a stock Bomber is real nice.

Just thought I'd share this really useful addition for the Bomber: It's a neoprene cover for the rear shock to prevent it getting clogged with mud. Essential if you live in Britain and Ireland, and now the Aussie drought is officially over, I guess you guys will be into it too! It's actually a mudguard to prevent spray up between the forks of downhill mountain bikes, but seems to fit the Bomber's rear shock nicely. I use a trials bike carrier a bit like Paul's but without the ramp. I have a quick release flanged tow bar so easy to remove etc...works really well.

No need for the ramp as you can pop the front wheel up on it and power the rear up very EZ on a lower car mount. If you have a high truck mount the ramp will work fine.

Agreed, I always lift the front wheel in and then the back. A fighter you can just do a straight lift and drop.

I am really impressed with the Magura MT-2 brakes also. Very light feel combined with excellent modulation and great stopping power.

i've been eyeing these brakes for a while, for it's seemingly slim profile.

any chance you could measure how wide it is between disc and inside edge where the the motor is?

also, does it come in a rear that can be cut down for use in the front.

if stopping power is good, pretty hard to beat at $100...

The callipers look the same except for the longer brake line on the back.

If they fit, you wont be disappointed. $100 is a crazy price for hydros of this quality.

Re Racks, I've got one of the Stealth factory racks fitted on the back of my bus, will be doing a blog post of it shortly with some pics to help give an idea of how they work. There is a need to still fit a wiring harness and lights to it so that any potential obscuring of the number plate and indicators isn't an issue, so I'm in discussions with John about how we can best progress that for owners.

@sethgl thanks for the mention, always happy to introduce people to my Fighter to help give an idea of what the ride is like and help inform any purchasing decisions. Hardest part is getting people to wait whilst their bikes get built! If you need a refresher ride, just let me know, it can help ease the wait time.

Oh i spotted an Orange Bomber on the back of a ute a few days ago, 1st one i've seen in the flesh. Its a pity i couldn't get his attention, wave him to pull over and have a chat (and direct him to ES). I didn't realise there were any Stealths in Perth so it was a pleasant surprise!

Got an email from Darrin here in the US. He sent me a picture of my bomber from the factory at about 90% assembled. It will be shipping in a few weeks with a newer upgraded battery. Looks like June 2012 will be a great month for me. Can wait. Also, I just got my Lizard Skins neoprene fork and shock covers in. I wil be posting a picture of those soon. They cover the shock and fork legs. Protects the shock shaft and fork tubes (stanchions in MTB speak) from dirt and rock dings which are the #1 killers for the seals. Its Almost go time!!!

Twist the throttle toward you as far as possible

If you're talking about CA parameters, it's probably already on optimal settings from the factory.

Here's a snapshot of some relevant settings on mine:

As far as I understand from Darin they are a new spec due to new supplier or new cells (probably due to slow supply) but Darin said there was no difference in output at all. Yes, still lifepo4.

Like the ones for my fork, its a flat piece of neoprene with velcro on the ends. Just stretch it around your shock and velcro together. As far as the front forks go, you can either order two Super Jumbo Chainstay Protector which I did that taper from 117mm to 107mm. They are really long and need to be cut to fit the forks. The RSTs One stanchion tubes are 36mm diameter which is about 113mm circumfrence. When I trim the super jumbo stay protectors for fit, I will trim from the short end. Or you can contact lizard skins in Utah via phone number on the website and have them made to order. I have had lizards skins custom cut and sew several Neoprene fork boot covers in the past for my dirt bikes and mountain bikes. They don't charge anymore than a comparable items and ship via Us Postal Service. Once my bomber arrives, I will put the covers on and post some pics.

so they'll do custom length 'fork boots'? my norko has 200mm forks, so the standards just a tad short . How do you keep the chainstay protectors from riding up? do you cut holes in 'em like the fork boots have?

I've always wondered why bikes dont have covers for their shocks, I mean, most MX bikes seem to, so why not on DH? surely the weight isn't that bigger deal... my norko was 20kg stock, so an extra 200g of neoprene is hardly a burden.

These are the 2 ways I found to be the best. On regular forks (not inverted/upside down forks) the smaller diameter of the Neoprene boot goes towards the top at the bottom of the lower triple clamp with the bigger portion at the bottom where the stanchion enters the leg by the fork's cross brace. Since the cover is tapered and the bottom part is downward, it will slide up and down as the forks compresses and extends. I always used a small ziptie at on the top portion to keep the boot from from sliding down the leg. I have broken zipties before when I bottomed out hard. Otherwise no problems. Now if the Neoprene boot wont slide down the leg after fork compression, some dental floss or fishing line connected from about an inch above the boot to the fork's leg will pull the boot down when the suspension is extending after compression. this has worked well for me and suprisingly the boot doesn't fold under. If there is a way to clamp the boot around the fork leg below the stanchion entry, that works the best. However, forks with crossmembers dont allow this unless the boot is custom cut to go around the crossmember. Inverted Forks with no crossmembers are the easiest. Stretch the boot over the fork leg on one end and ziptie it. The other end push it clear to axel mount and ziptie that. short of a super hard landing that bottoms out and breaks the bottom ziptie, the boot stays in place and protects the stanchion shafts. I have never cut holes in the neoprene boots before so that could be an option as well. As far as custom ordering the neoprene for fitting, just call Lizard Skins and tell them what you want. I have done this several times and they always sent my order correct. For example, your Norco with the 200mm forks, tell them the tube diameter of the forks and how long you want the neoprene covers to be. Lizard Skins will take care of the rest. Not counting shipping, it will probably run you around $20-25 USD per pair. If you go this route, add atleast one inch onto the length for margin of error. There really easy to cut with sizzors and its better to have to much than not enough. Hope this helps.
