Welding Steel to CrMo 4130

Hello..

Im just wondering if you can MIG weld steel to 4130 ???

I plan on welding the drop outs and some of the tube of a bike, if i cant ill simply use a nuts and bolts + jb weld

I bet s6 would also work

ER70S2 is what I use. Works well on chromoly and mild steel.

I just don't want to make anything weak from my welding inexperience, iv done a bit of welding but not alot.
The room im using wont have much air movement, i plan to let the weld cool as slow as possible.

I should have just got a cheap crapper steel bike to do this build but i got a new monogear mongoose. its a nice big frame

I should really look into doing some kind of welding class if they have such a thing.

The MIG wire seems to have a higher silicon content, should work just fine.

i think ill weld it all up and then try some small jumps with out the motor powering me.. if it seems to be fine..

you may need to heat treat it after welding (Normalize it after welding) to make it all uniform strength (Normal). That may be difficult for larger parts and may distort it, which would require some kind of straightening after. Here's a link to a .pdf with some more info on the 4130 alloy...
