goped bigfoot conversion

Postby flanders » Wed May 30, 2012 10:09 am

I am currently planning on converting an old goped bigfoot to electric,

I am trying to decide which motor to use, looking on ebay they seem a fair bit cheaper than hobbyking.

I thinking I will start with one of these 5065 270kv outrunners? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/N5065-Kv270-Outrunner-Brushless-Motor-Power-2100W-Airplane-/130691441681?pt=RC_Modellbau&hash=item1e6dd12411

but there is also this 180kv one for a bit more http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EMP-SK6374-KV180-outrunner-brushless-motor-power-3250W-RC-airplane-/110874582753?pt=RC_Modellbau&hash=item19d0a3dee1

I will be using a chain drive.

any advice appreciated :D

Hi
I can help you but need to know what your weight and how fast you want to go with it.
Also Are there any long climbs in the area where you ride ?

hi, I am rather heavy at just over 200lbs :( but it is mainly for my son to ride who is probably half that :)

it will be mainly for the flat. anything around 15-20mph would be great

thanks

90 pounds is not much, but if you want to ride it would recommend that you go on the 6374 motor size.
Leaders hobby sell C6374 motors for 39 $ , I ordered 2 foy myself..
Because speed controllers up to 7 cells are cheap (around 35$) you can work on a 6-cell , cheap and gives great performance.

I put the data in the calculator I made and you will see two options for KV of the motor and transmission: (speed is km/h)

What you need to buy:
*Motor
*sprockets+Chain (you can also buy one way bearing)
*speed controller
*turnigy servo tester
*hall effect throttle
*batterys
*BEC if needed

hey guy thanks for your help, I will order a 6374, but it is cheaper on ebay for me with postage

I will go with the 180kv as it is cheapest and I will get a 200a esc, none in stock on hobby king but there are mystery ones on ebay, do you know if they are any good?

flanders,

if the model of goped you said you had, which is the bigfoot, if i recall isnt a chain drive. you might have to convert it to chain drive which should be easy. here is a site where you can get all the parts you need for the conversion here as far as chains and sprockets for a goped: http://www.davesmotors.com/s.nl/c.885035/sc.12/category.27949/.f for chains and sprockets, and here: http://www.davesmotors.com/s.nl/c.885035/sc.12/category.27954/.f for wheel parts. theyre pretty good, but im not sure if they will do international shipping. you might have to ask and see.

that should be a good platform to convert nonetheless. the air tires should make a smooth ride compared to the sport models they make.

hi def thanks for the links I will take a look, was going to use this sitehttp://www.technobotsonline.com as they are in the uk

I have a sport and a bigfoot, I am gonna try and convert them both if possible, but might start with the sport with a friction drive setup as it should be a bit easier :)
