for mortals like me, what counts is a reliable solution. Nothing more, nothing less.

I think the point is what speed / acceleration you want. And then build a drive that is suited for that. A drive that can satisfy the requirements at 60-70% of its capabilities. To avoid overheating and other problems.

Remember when Lowracer got the 5404 , completely upgraded it, installed aircooling and then said he would run it at 36v as a reliable drive. Everyone was laughing. Maybe it is "underkill" but i think it is good direction.
NO point to overkill drives [unless you do it for "R&D"], better get bigger one to do smaller job..

We are all talking about if bigger is better or not. Hmm, that is the entire point of this thread. The 4 inch is bigger than the 3 inch motors. Bigger is, indeed, better.

I agree, this ES user is looking to join the M.E.N.S. club. Cocentric swingarm pivot, BB and right-hand side drive is all planned out. Just looking for the right outrunner/inrunner motor, and this might be it.

I love the idea of putting an E-motor inside the case of a small dirtbike trans. Loose the top end and run it through the gears. Would be very cool for trail riding! I have wanted to do this for some time! I bet the gear ratios would be fairly close for a small two stroke engine too!

the 4 Inch Astro is actually 4,5", 10lbs, internal fan cooled and 15 KW capable and we should have ours in a month....

the clock is running......2- motors are already in hands of board members....still haven't even seen one on anything other than Coles race car....Just spinning a prop on a bench would be a confidence boost.

It going to be a custom order with the custom order price. But we are going to rebuild it to water cooled to get more performance out of the motor.

It going to be a custom order with the custom order price. But we are going to rebuild it to water cooled to get more performance out of the motor.

Racecar is a school project for the formula student electric competition. Controller will be either a custom controller based on the hybridpack 2 of infineon or a sevcon gen 4 size 8

Yea ive been working with a tritium for about a year now. It wont do.more than ~120kW unless u.have a battery that has very very low sag. The controller is pretty sweet thou with plenty of features and very nice software which they are continuing to improve. Would be fun to run two of these 4in astros off of one...
