what hub motor for third build, tried bafang and ht3525

Hi guys built a hardtail bafang 36v 500 watt running on 2x6s lipos. first ebike. great

then built full suss ht3525, great build quality, but super heavy and a bit dissapointing on hills, needs more power i think, again 2x6s lipos

so ive sold the hardtail to my bro, and want to build another as there so bloody addictive.

I really liked the lightweight geared torquey bafang, so am looking for a better quality version of that i suppose
geared - upto about 1500watts - ideal for off road mountain biking, and great if it will take a 9 speed freewheel but not a must.

I really like the look of the hpc striker brushless geared, but its big bucks really

Also like the heinzmann, but im not sure if it will take the power i want to use.

saw a link to mac on here ealier taht looks quite nice.

will be using similar power source 2x6s lipos, and i have a spare bafang ku123 36v 30a controller, sensored and sensorless i would like to use if poss

thanks again guys

You had the start of a good trail bike with that HT3525. It makes less torque than the geared motor, and The geared is faster, lighter, and smaller.

But thats where the advantages end. Geared hubs can't take the same abuse as a Direct drive. your Bafang is putting out about half of what it's capable of on the road, but nearing it's limits off road. But that Crystalyte is at only a small fraction of it's true potential, on or off road. your current configuration is only putting out 45lbs torque. add 3 cells to your pack and run a 40A controller, and you would be pumping out over 70lbs. but thats still lame. Try doubling the voltage and using a 40 A controller. Nothing geared is going to compare. And you are just begining to push the motor at that point.

Really, you have an ideal motor in that HT3525, for turning into an off road beast.
Buy the ticket, take the ride.

Thanks for the reply. Think I kinda knew that, that's why I kept the ht and sold the bafang.
I currently have a 48v 25a controller adjustable with apm.
You reckon it will take 15s lipo. And do u think I cans squeeze a bit more out of it amps wise before I pop it

I love the ht it's a great build. But clearly need to unleash it.

yea I am so very impressed with what my HT can do. I ran 18S for a while , but the more power at 24S has me addicted.
Someday when I get my lyen 18 fet controller going ill run it at 30S.

that motor is screaming to be modified and over volted..

I should have my 5404 going soon so Ill have something to compare , but I love my 3525 throw more volts/amps at it.

I have the HS3540, the same motor as you but with the faster wind, more speed but less torque, i run it on 6 x 6s 8000mah zippy packs configured as 18s2p. 75 volts fully charged with 16ah to play with, running through a 40 amp controller gives me 3000w which is a good level of performance for these motors in their standard trim. I would upgrade what you have with a controller of atleast 40 amps and some more battery to unleash some more of your motors potential, your motor is not even breaking a sweat at the moment!
