AXO Vertigo Mountain Bike Shoes- lightly used

Postby mdd0127 » Mon Jun 11, 2012 4:05 pm

Hi,

I wanted to try spd pedals a few years ago so I picked up these shoes at the Durango, Co bike swap. They were preowned by Ned Overend! Or they came from his pile of stuff for sale at least...

They are in excellent shape other than some wear on the upper inner ankle area on both shoes. This is from rubbing on the velcro that's attached to the neoprene liner and they probably got this way after the first ride. It does not affect function at all and isn't visible from the outside. See the third pic.

They are size 45 (US 11). I wear an 11 wide and they were a little narrow but not too uncomfortable.
They're not stinky and the logo on the insole under the heel is in perfect shape so I really don't think they've been on more than a ride or two.

I wore them once, for two miles, rode back to camp, and changed pedals and shoes. I do not like being clipped in!

So, if you want some size 11 HiTop mountain biking shoes that are spd compatible and in good shape, but you don't want to spend $200, get in touch.

$45 shipped within the US.

The only forms of payment I can accept are Money Orders from the US Post office or Western Union transfers from international buyers. International buyers will have to pay actual shipping.

These are high tops so you have ankle protection and support and they are in much better shape than the pics may suggest. You can't even buy new high top shoes like this anymore and when you could, they were $120.

How about $35 shipped?

Huh. My shoe size.

You might want to try clipins for a bit longer though. I'm told they take some time to get used to, but really help out so you can add more power. At least on a speed bike, anyway.

I can't even ride anymore really. I hurt my neck somehow and have been suffering daily headaches for months because of it. Even the ebike gives me whiplash which doesn't help things so I've only been riding it once a week or so. I gave my downhill bike to a friend's son because I thought he'd put it to better use and not having a bike would keep me from trying to hurt myself on one for a while.

When I do ride regularly, I'm usually going really fast over big rocks, right on a cliff edge or coming down the side of a mountain. If things don't go as planned, I need to be able to get off the bike quickly, preferably in a direction that doesn't result in plummeting off a cliff or slamming into a tree. When I tried the spd pedals, I was pushing really hard, pedaling up ledges next to a cliff edge. I came up one ledge and the next ledge was at the perfect spacing to completely stop me and I started falling towards the cliff. I tried to get out but couldn't and went over. It was only a 12-15 foot drop and I was clutching at sagebrush on the way down so I didn't get hurt but if it had happened 100 more feet down the trail, I wouldn't be typing this.

I pedal up everything I ride back down too but I don't really care much about efficiency. The less efficient it is, the stronger I get. When my neck starts feeling better, I'll probably be back to riding in similar conditions so I won't ever need these shoes.

For stuff like this, you don't want to be stuck on the bike if you don't want to be:

jeez, that's beautiful :-D. My guess for mountain biking the gain would be slightly additional torque on the uphill from the additional upstroke. BUT, i really think your arguments in your case are quite compelling (namely, the ones about living). If I thought I'd make more use of them, I would be interested, but I think they would mostly sit around (bad). Hopefully someone picks up the shoes soon.

Make any offer that's worth my time to box these up and cover shipping and they're yours. I'm going to donate them to the thrift store if they don't sell soon. Need the money though so if you want some high top clip in shoes, now's the time to get a great deal.
