Somehow this happened to my gmail account last year...keylogger on a school networked computer, though very unlikely, seems to have been the only way in... Even after some intensive searching I haven't found any traces on my personal computer.
Anyway, with gmail you can set up "two step verification." It is sometimes a pain in the ass, but worth it so that I never again spam people...I couldn't even figure out who I spammed except it seemed to hit up at least one of my professors and my brother and mother. :S.
Two step verification sends you a text pincode when you try to log in from another computer, and every 30 days you have to re-verify your regular computer. Since I don't log in too often on machines other than my own, it mostly means that I simply have to verify my computer via my phone once a month. The algerian IP that went into my account would not have been able to access it if I had two-step turned on. If the spammer got in by tunneling through your computer, you'd still be screwed, but then you need some more network security. -peace.
