There are a three problems with that idea..
1. the battery will hang out over the bike's tube more, and therefore it may want to slip side to side more.
2. with narrower cranks, the cranks may strike the battery.
3. the front derailleur may make contact with the bag, though i'm not sure as i don't run one..
So it may be best to work within the confines already set up, if it is possible. On one of my bikes, the battery already slips side to side a bit, so that's already a problem :/
