IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT! NEWLY DEVELOPED BMC MOTORS!!!

Postby hi-powercycles » Wed Aug 06, 2008 2:23 pm

Hello Everybody,
I have some exciting news for all you electric bike enthusiasts. We have been working diligently with BMC (Brushless Motor Corporation) to come up with a new, more powerful BMC hub motor than the one currently available. We are pleased to announce that we have developed (2) new BMC brushless, Planetary geared hub motors! Preliminary Specifications are as follows:

NEW! BMC Thunderbolt-
-New, High Power/High Speed REAR hub motor from Hi-Power Cycles and BMC offers relentless power and insane speeds. 50% more power than the BMC motor currently on the market.
-Capable of 40 MPH at 48V. On the standard 25A, 36V controller it will even go 30 MPH! This motor will be marketed to the off-road crowd. (or on road with the cycle analyst option to limit speed to 20 mph).
-New 50% thicker gauge copper windings coupled with stronger magnets combine to offer less resistance and more power.
-STEEL GEARS with 4.8:1 ratio to provide enhanced durability at higher voltages and RPM’s.
-Casing is the same size as the current motor. So yes, disk brakes and 8 speed freewheels will fit!

NEW! BMC Striker
-New High Power/ Extreme Torque REAR hub motor from Hi-Power Cycles and BMC. When you crave the torque to conquer any hill imaginable, then the new BMC striker is your ticket to the top!
-Capable of 25 MPH at 48V. On the Standard 25A, 36V controller, it will go 20 MPH like the current BMC motor, but will provide literally 50% more hill climbing power. This motor will be a perfect fir for those with an insatiable appetite for wheel-screeching torque!

Also, we would like to mention that we are currently working with BMC to offer a brand new 40 Amp 24-48V controller that will be a perfect match with these new motors. Also, we are working so that the future batches of BMC motors and BMC controllers will be directly plug and play with all Crystalyte products!

We intend to have test videos up of these new motors within the next few weeks! Stay tuned! And yes, for all you power junkies, we will be offering kits higher than 48V as well!

Awesome! This is great news. I could drop my voltage from 66 to 33 and have twice the amp hours, with the same battery pack, yet still go plenty fast for my work commute. I really like cruising about 23 mph, with 28-30 as a top end.

Having fried a WE brushed motor on a big hill this summer, I must say this is timely news. I'll need one by next summer for sure!

I guess the "Striker" is basically the same motor as the Mark 2 Puma? The larger one, made in China, not India.

Does it have a freewheel?

And where are the pics and prices????

think you have yourself a winner big time if you can keep raising the bmc manufacturing process toward the reliability/ruggedness of the brush heinzmanns say, reassuring customers that there is 100% integration with controllers and throttles, coupled with american after-sales service and warranty, whilst keeping prices reasonable around $500/$600. demand would be high right of the bat - and figure gas will be on the up and up in the coming few years so a huge increase in ev interest overall by 2010 . imagine gas at $10 how many people are gonna start thinking different - its coming. your only competition right now would be the ezee hub motor.

good luck get all these details sorted asap if you're serious you would probably find a business sponsor fairly readily

Make sure you have a 700c rear - everything seems to be 26" If its 700c, put me down for Thunderbolt.

Great news, especially for people that live in hilly locations.

Ebikes are going to dominate urban commuting with products like this available.
Ebike in use:
LWB Recumbent bike, Sram i-9 internal gears.
Power supply: 58V, 16 amp/hr, lipo batteries.
max speed: 50 km/h (30 mph),
max range: 40 km's, incl stop&go few times, minimal pedaling.

Hi

What have they done to address the magnet slip problem? I havent been in contact with TH for a long time but I found that on some BMC motors if used at high power levels for extended periods the rotor would get so hot that the adhesive holding the magnets would weaken and the magnets would spin under load inside the rotor, I have seen this on 1 of my motors and know of it happening on 2 others? have they addressed this problem? the motors still work but they slip and judder badly on acceleration and hill starts, I need to do a video to detail what i mean, they could stop the problem by simply keying 3 of the magnets in to the rotor body, they would have to be deeper magnets in order to match the others, this would solve the problem.

Sounds a lot like what happend with my fried BD36. The inner hub has a band wrapped around in with the magnets stuck to it. The outer band would get hot, and big, and start slipping around the inner hub. Wierd, I could hear it spinning, but no moving.

Yeah, what's the latest? I'm in the market for an "upgrade" and giving serious thought to a 5305, but would entertain a Stryker purchase if the timing is right and the price is competitive with the 5 series. Thanks for any updates you can share!

We are looking at another 2-3 weeks to test and take videos of the demo units. We should start selling production units by the end of September!

Hi!

Any news so far?
The striker looks very tempting.
How is the efficiency, compared to the standard BMC, when just cruising on flat ground at around 20mph?

Cheers,

Julian
