Hi
Someone described our boards as looking like "Dog Balls"... and I believe this was not used in a positive manner.. :shock:
So maybe we can make our boards look cooler by designing some 3d printable/thermoformed enclosures that would be easy to make and would fit some of the more used parts. Hopefully there will be available designs for wheel gears, flashlights, on/off plugs and everything else to make out boards look custom.
I will try getting this ball rolling with my first creation ... The Stingray... (developed for the hk150)

This file is the fifth iteration as the previous ones had slight measurement errors. The code is included so all you design geniouses can make a silk purse out of this sow's ear.
Bear in mind im no design genious, and this is my first solidworks part.. so be gentle with your comments.. :oops:

I will probably mount the part on the board this saturday or so..
Forgot to mention the the receiver is tucked in the rear so that it is protected and invisible...

I will probably make another model (at some point) for the wiiceiver, just happened that I have an extra gun/receiver and had to give it a new home. I should have enough parts for a new velociraptor, so this will be it's enclosure and might work on something 3d printed for the batts as well.

Thanks Okp... i have been playing with it for about 1 1/2 months.. basically doing a 36 lesson tutorial... then did a couple wishful design for several parts/assemblies for a new cnc plasma cutter im building, and then decided to try this out. Took me 5 iterations to get it to fit.. so that shows the lack of ability :shock:
However the program is incredible, i thought sketchup was cool till i tried this.. it is like comparing a chiwawa and a star destroyer... I will continue to play with it...

Looks great! Try sealing the sides with weather strip tape and it might be waterproof.

just dabbed some silicone on all the exposed conectors, and smoothed it with my finger. Unfortunately paid little attention when purchasing and choose brown silicone (duhhh) so it is noticeable, white silicone should look cool... and the smoothness once you run over the electrical parts looks awesome...I would not dunk this ESC underwater but it should be very close to waterproof.

To take the fan off did you...unscrew it? Or is it more complicated? Looks like you put a heat sink on instead. Did u mount it with that weird putty stuff?

Unscrew the top 4 screws...take the plastic cover off...take the fan off...unplug fan connector. Silicone over expoeed contacts....
Should take about a minute all together. ....
 
how vulnerable is the fillet where you have two surfaces meeting at right angles? does the plastic set up with the same physical properties as the die extrude plastics? you have alotta vibration.

here is a stand on top test...
guess we'll just have to see if the vibration delaminates it

The properties constraints of die moulding are orders or magnitude greater.. both in manufacturing difficulty/cost as in physical toughness of the finished part. This part would be very dificult to mould due to the frontal holes as well as the zero draft angle on the inside, since it was not designed to be moulded.
 
oh yeh, i can see it has a huge fillet. from the underside i thought it was like sheet metal in the corner but that is totally built up. it is not gonna crack at the fold then. way cool.

ESC does not get too hot without the fan ?
 
If the motors stay under 50c, there wont be much of a problem of the motors melting out.. but if they go above, what about using some stainless steel nuts and bolts because its a fairly poor heat conductor? hopefully heat would take more time to travel and reach the plastic if it's on stainless standoff's

probably work well if you had it resting on a heatsink and have a fan designed into the mount, move the heat to the heatsink and blow it away.

This looks like a fun project.

It's ABS, printed solid. It works and gave me the possibility to see how I want my setup to be. Like pinion size and stuff.
Check my thread about the board if you want to know more.
But it sure is not a long term solution and I wouldn't recommend it.
The motor is rewound by me as well. It got real hot and the motorholder doesn't seem to be affected.

No the ESC does not get warmer than usual. Just be sure to get the program card and the settings down right.
For our motors you will need forward only with brake,timing on very high, drag on 0%, throttle limit on 0%, and start speed on very slow. This esc cannot be beep programed so spend the extra 8 bucks or so on the card!

I use this well with 17:42 gear ratio NTM 5060 using htd5 15mm belts on 83mm abec clones have about 1200 kms on these without any trouble. Rider/board combo weighs in at about 210 lbs and ride in a flat area...

As with everything here if you burn your esc due to our free advice, do not worry , we have a 100% refund policy.. :D

This is an older version, the newer is the same in thicker but I don't have pics...

Everything was working pretty well for my test ride.

Now I need to protect electronics, Velcro does not protect enough ^^
I'm drawing an enclosure for my Turnigy 6S but it's still in progress...
 
Mine are in ABS but in all fairness they are not designed to be slammed or hit...so PLA should be fine.
I believe your motor mounts are going to flex a lot destroying your belts.... ask me how i know--- :shock:
If you are making them out of anything other than metal they must be as short as possible and very thick.. I made mine out of 1" HDO and they flexed like hell...
Can you post the link to the wheel gear.. I think it would make an awesome addition to this topic..
