Anybody with Torqeedo 402, 403 or NK180 clone?

Need side-mounted e-motor on a kayak with remote throttle. Have been procrastinating a lot, now is the time. Torqeedo Ultralight 403 AC and its clone Newport NK180 are made for either flat stern rudderless fishing kayaks or you make DIY mount across the stern deck fore of the rudder, make it...

    Noseless saddle that works?

Style - lazy cruising, upright, no super-fast super-tight turns. Terrain - paved or hard packed dirt road. Speed - slow, wouldn't go over 12 mph on a dirt road, need to see ruts and potholes, on a paved it doesn't matter. Tires are 2.3". Currently have "nosy" saddle C9 10.5"x10.5"...

    Geared motor vs brushed

Chvidgov - yes, driving displacement hull faster than a hull speed - would be very inefficient. Resistance forces increase many times. That's why one of conditions that I set was "slower than a hull speed".

    Geared motor vs brushed

Either model needs an adequate battery 900-1000 WH. If you add 900 WH Li battery to Minn, quality PWM remote, waterproof battery box (they don't exist, need to make something), then Minn becomes $1,300 and Torqee $2,400 (comes with a small battery of limited usefulness, you have to buy 900 WH...

    Geared motor vs brushed

I should've mentioned that Torqeedo is brushless geared - not just a geared. Makes a typical whirring noise of a geared motor. Minn Kota is brushed and (I think) direct drive. There is zero info on the latter feature at the Minn Kota website, but it "sounds" literally like a direct drive...

    Geared motor vs brushed

Forgive my ignorance - and mistrust ;)... Without going into fundamentals of mechanics and hydrodynamics, would like to hear semi-educated opinion. Here are 2 trolling/kayaking motors: 400W Torqeedo Ultralight 403, geared. (I understand they use PWM controller for variable speed). 360W Minn...

    36V battery for 29.6V outboard?

I am aware of problems with speed on water. Resistance to boat movement increases 8 times when you increase speed 2 times, so every additional 0.5 km/hour results in huge drop of range. Besides, Torqueedo 400W motor has peak efficiency - don't remember - at 200W or less. Its max speed is 8-9km...

    36V battery for 29.6V outboard?

Thanks, Justin. 95% DC-DC is impressive, didn't know this was possible, most converters are under 75% efficiency. Yes, 200W output is below 400W of that Torqy 403. One more connector is also a minus, on water. I understand what Germans were thinking with Torqy 403 - more volts, less amps - but...

    36V battery for 29.6V outboard?

Didn't know about this Haswing. Thanks. 2,000 Euro, but it is 24V! One thing makes it unsuitable for me - "fresh water only". 18 lbs weight is reasonable, but on a kayak this outboard means - side mount, and then it's a bit heavy on the side, though not as heavy as my current 30 lbs gas...

    36V battery for 29.6V outboard?

I see on this graph that 33.6V means that 2000 mah was drawn out of 3000 mah cell? So I will only have 1/3 of 700 WH to play with. Not worth the trouble. And then, I will kill it if I run it down to 2.8V. Below 3.2V it can't support the load anymore, the graph just drops down.

    36V battery for 29.6V outboard?

Good day, people. I hope this is the right place to ask. Considering electric outboard on a kayak - I'm tired of my 2.5 HP four-stroke Suzuki. Nice motor, runs forever on 1 liter of gas at 6 mph speed, but... 2.5 HP is more than I need, plenty of noise (quieter than 2-strokes, but I'm sitting...
