I don't want to clutter your thread. Here's a link to a post about the electrical system.

My avatar is a pic of the proa.
The one thing you can't see is the 100W panel on the side deck between the akas. It...
That's an ambitious project.
I have concerns about the 'sailability' of your platform. While the short outriggers will provide stability while motoring, I'm not sure they will provide enough stability while sailing. Being short, they will cause a lot of drag. All those external tanks will also...
I'll just mention that I installed the 1.2kWh DIY pack (see blue drybag photo earlier in thread) and Haswing Protruar 1.0 with 11x6 APC prop and spinner on a Windrider 16. It's great! Range is >16 nmi. Max speed is 4.5knots. 100W panel recharges the pack in 2 or 3 days, but not as fast as on proa.
I see the flipsky site has a chat interface. Maybe someone could answer your voltage question.
What was the current draw at 4 knots? Was the motor at max RPM (i.e. speed didn't increase any more with some throttle range left)? Maybe a different prop would give better performance. Higher pitch if...
Hey, cool project.
Check out APC model airplane props. They have some models that are appropriate for use with trolling motors. I used an APC 11x6 to replace the stock 3 blade props on a 12V Haswing Protruar 1.0. 55lb thrust, I think. This was pushing a 6m sailing proa. With the stock prop, the...
Actually, at least one guy did. We started loading all the pieces (demountable) into his cargo van, but then he started thinking it would be too much for him and his wife to unload/reload later on, so bailed. I think it was for the best. It was a pain organizing access to the boat yard now that...
Justin, I've really enjoyed this thread. It makes me wish I'd studied electric motors more. Hope to meet you on the water some time (need another boat first). :thumb:
Hi all,
I've been using a 12V 100AH LiFePO4 pack in a dry bag for about 3 years on my 6m Pacific proa (19' single outrigger sailing canoe). I made a small connection panel using two sheets of PE which are bolted together through the bag and sealed with 3M 5200. The panel holds waterproof...
