    Ginormous outrunner.... in my washer!

As with many of my impulse motor purchases, this one turned out about like you'd expect... More images http://davedesign.smugmug.com/Machines/Ironless-outrunner/22561518_VWkQSZ#!i=1805634620&k=QqcmxMK Phase to phase resistance is about 12 _ohms_, no, not miliohms. It's Wye, as can be seen in...

    Ginormous outrunner.... in my washer!

I'll know in about a week. Not to derail my own thread, but there is an Interesting pdf on the F&P site http://www.fisherpaykel.com/direct-drive-motors/common/pdf/4876_NZ_Motors_BRO_HR.pdf. Worth downloading for the cover pic alone. If the "MB" motor can really do 50nm @ 1600rpm, that would be...

    Ginormous outrunner.... in my washer!

Here we go, the 4th "drawings" link shows the design pretty well, and this agrees with what I can see through the slots and ebay image http://www.google.com/patents/US20110036127. Near as I can tell, this just looks like a patent on a really cheap way to make a motor, nothing really new.

    Ginormous outrunner.... in my washer!

There is a marginally better picture here http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&rt=nc&nma=true&item=280746586506&si=liKjycUHVooqc%252FU6Bof%252FRBKqsLU%253D&viewitem=&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc Courting certain disaster and apocalyptic flooding of my laundry room, I...

    Ginormous outrunner.... in my washer!

The really cool thing is the armature is _ironless_. Had I not stupidly unscrewed the shipping bolts all the way, trapping a 6" long standoff inside my brand new Samsung washer, I would have never removed the access cover and discovered this gem...

    Inside a 400amp 120v BLDC Kelly

Cool thread, and it strikes home, as I just plonked down some 600 bucks on a KEB72801. I just couldn't find anything else affordable that was buy-it-now-able with close to my target performance. I'm hoping it survives in _intermittent_ use at it's 150A continuous rating! Interesting to see the...

    Turnigy CA120-70 8600W Brushless Outrunner (100c eq)

Well, I'm willing to do almost anything to avoid milling the stator, so I may give them a call. The parent company, Renishaw is actually pretty good to deal with, once you get over their pricing (how 'bout $1k for twelve kilobytes of software - Inspection Plus probing software for CNC machines)...

And yet another shaft encoder that has commutation outputs. They might be convinced to make a 14 pole device for us, though they only list 4, 6 and 8. http://usdigital.com/products/encoders/incremental/rotary/kit/ec35

    Turnigy CA120-70 8600W Brushless Outrunner (100c eq)

More on halls. Again, ES has saved me about another 500 fruitless hours machining parts that won't work and trying to set my external hall sensor timing while the sensors are overcome with the stator's magnetic field. I've been looking into alternate commutation sensor schemes. A lot of good...

    Turnigy CA120-70 8600W Brushless Outrunner (100c eq)

Duuuh, nevermind. I just watched LFP's laguna seca video. Er, what I meant was, watch out for the CHP radar  . Back to halls, trying to find enough clip leads to hook up all 3 motor phases and halls to my digi 002r to get a better idea of precise hall timing. I'm pretty sure the hall...

    Turnigy CA120-70 8600W Brushless Outrunner (100c eq)

Re drink, yeah, I could probably figure out this hall timing if I hadn't killed so many brain cells. Another good reason to ride over the hill, the De Anza electronics flea market is next saturday. It's held in the college parking lot, and there is always lots of cool tech kit there. Starts...

    Turnigy CA120-70 8600W Brushless Outrunner (100c eq)

Ok, so I've been blindly dorking around with this motor and the hall placement. I don't have immediate access to a dso, so I used my Protools LE DAW to record the outputs of a single hall and motor phase output as audio signals. Here's what it looks like...

    Turnigy CA120-70 8600W Brushless Outrunner (100c eq)

Finally got motivated to hook up the motor and controller and see if it all works. The controller is a Kelly KEB72801X with the ultra high speed firmware. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xU2pruxPJoU I tried tuning the bracket position with the motor running slowly, but couldn't really see any...

    12 kw rc motor

I think your assertion might apply to a 12 slot 14 magnet motor, but the timing of the 18 slot 20 magnet Collosus is different, no? Our motor is AaABbBCcCAaABbBCcC, where the 12/14 is AabBCcaABbcC. It took me a little while to understand how this motor "fires", compared to the more common 9 and...
