    Tonaro dead?

Tonaro in the UK is and has been dead for a long time. They offered a number of models, the Bighit being the best of them. They were however ridiculously overbuilt and heavy and the clutch/reducer design was hideous, underwent about four revisions and still never got it right. Which was a great...

Hey Acho, there are several devices on the Tonaro which rely on the hall effect like the brakes and the speed sensor on the back wheel. The motor also has Hall sensors which tell the controller the position of the rotor and make it run smoother. I havn't tried the tonaro without the hall sensors...

    GNG Drive Gen2

Ok, so I was able to remove the cheap crap stock gng freewheel from the crank arm using a cunning device called a freewheel removal tool. I replaced it using an old toothless tonaro freewheel which looks much more robust, though it does lengthen the chainwheel hub by 3 or 4 mm. I was quite...

    GNG Drive Gen2

Thanks Mike, am grateful for your advice. I found another freewheel in the shed, it is Chinese but seems robust. If I can somehow unscrew the central boss-keyway, is it likely that the old crank arm will fit in its place? (the crank arm is shown screwed into the old duff GNG sprocket...

Tonaro bighit clone - battery question

Hi acho and welcome to our longrunning orb. Most of what you want to know is referenced in this thread already. The tonaro can be relatively easy and rewarding to modify if you are not content with it. A 50-54 tooth chainwheel is the easiest way to increase your speed a bit (apart from pedaling...

    GNG Drive Gen2

After about 8 months of fairly casual use, the freewheel on my gng2 has worked loose and the initial wobble of the chainwheel been exacerbated to the extent where it now throws the chain. In fact the chain has broken twice. I probably should have tightened the freewheel earlier, and though it...

Hi George, if you measure the compartment you can then buy an appropriately sized 48v battery in the US, or try BMS Battery in China. You may wish to get something more than 10AH as that will only get you 20miles or so. The stock controller has 50v capacitors I think, so it may or may not...

Tonaro zoco rossa + PAS + leafcontroller != working

Hi Chris, cant help with the PAS and what the wee red light does, mebe Catic in China will tell you if you email them. Shouldnt matter which way round but make sure the magnet disk is close enough to the sensor. Is the speed sensor hooked up? The 200w marking on the motor is just for...

Chris there should be a circlip which snaps into a small groove milled into the circumference of the splined drive shaft. The circlip function is to secure the sprag clutch (alloy chainwheel unit) onto this splined drive shaft. Without this unremarkable, anonymous looking little part, you and...

    GNG Drive Gen2

well my gen2 is holding up jus fine so far but then it has been sitting in the shed most of the time. If the chain wears(and it has stretched) I'll just buy a new one.

Had to push the bike home today after the freewheel in the rear wheel bit the dust. This is the third rear wheel freewheel (or freehub?) that Ive bust in almost two years. All of these failures were on stock Tonaro wheels running at higher current and voltage but no more than 1500w. Suspect the...

Roland the mod I refer to in the controller is a shunt mod which involves adding solder to the shunt to increase the current limit from 15a to 20a or more. With lipo you can go further but remember it's just a wee controller. Can only just scrape 25mph on the flat but it runs up well.
