    Are Cell Spacers Necessary?

You make a valid point. Has anyone used cell wraps: https://www.fogstar.co.uk/products/21700-pvc-wraps How loose are they initially? Can you fit them over a cell that is already wrapped before you shrink them? (To double wrap them)

    My "Mark 2" solar trailer

Really interesting project good luck. By the way you can get a ' buck-boost solar controller' and cheap too, I have one which I had intended using for a similar project...

    72V 40AH, 150 amp capable battery build

Where did you get those honeycomb style 21700 cell spacers from?

    Are Cell Spacers Necessary?

For my next battery build I’ll be looking to stuff as many cells in an EEB frame as possible. I used the standard 21700 cell spacers in my last build but obviously not using spacers would allow a lot more cells in total. I’ve seen people hot glue cells together, then fish tape parallel...

    First Hub Wheel Build

Ah, that’s two throttles one controller, I’m looking at the reverse.

    First Hub Wheel Build

All sorted now, using two TAs both of which I filed down to perfect fit the axle flats. My next question is around using one throttle on two controllers. I’ve seen how this is done normally with the signal cable split off to the second controller. This new setup I have uses Higo connectors...

    First Hub Wheel Build

Well the new TA turned up, the flat to flat distance is stated as 10.17mm which I suppose would be alright for an axle with 10mm flats. However, when I measure my TA distance I get around 10.2mm and when I measure my axle with digital calipers, my axle flats are more like 9.98mm. Doesn't sound...

    First Hub Wheel Build

So I almost had a catastrophic failure with the new wheel on first test. I installed the new motor on a hard tail MTB I have using a substantial torque arm which I picked up from a forum member several years ago. I bought several of them, I think they were water-jetted and are obviously steel...

    First Hub Wheel Build

I’m a total convert to hydraulic brakes. I can’t believe I’ve spent so many years mucking around with avid cable brakes, so many hours troubleshooting rubbing brake pads. These Clark M2 hydros are amazing and insanely cheap as well. For £40 / $50 you get two brake levers, two brake calipers...

    First Hub Wheel Build

My first wheel build is complete, it wasn't as hard as I was expecting, here are some thoughts: I ended up buying a comically expensive sapim nipple wrench, only to find that I couldn't use it, for two reasons. The gap between the two 'blades' on the wrench isn't big enough to fit over the...

    First Hub Wheel Build

Some progress today, I spoked up the hub by copying an existing wheel I have. I used a couple of rolls of tape to lift up and hold the hub in place, then various books to raise the rim up to the right height. I think I must have made just about every mistake you can make which is to be...

    First Hub Wheel Build

I've ordered in a truing stand, nothing special, but I do like the idea of being able to sit at my kitchen table while learning to true.

    First Hub Wheel Build

Thanks for your input, can I ask: 1) Pre-bend the j-bends how? 2) How do I find out what the max spoke tension should be? Is this a parameter defined by the wheel rim? Edit: Just found the figure 100 - 135KGs - seems a lot! 3) Boiled linseed oil - do you literally just dip the threaded part...

    First Hub Wheel Build

Had to order the spokes from one retailer and nipples from another, they were the only two UK retailers who had them. Sapim e-strong spokes & Sapim BAT Reducer nipples. Do I need to buy a wheel truing stand for a one-off wheel build? (Might do a couple more in the future) If so which one?
