    LiFePO4 for EVT?

Hi everyone, thanks for the replies! It's been quite a while, but I find myself at home with some time on my hands which naturally leads to plotting wacky upgrades... Max current not known for sure as I've not measured it, but as Amanda says the stall current for the motor is supposedly 43A so...

    LiFePO4 for EVT?

G'day! I've got an EVT 168 which is currently running 4 50Ah SLA batteries (approx 14kg each for a total of 56kg for the pack). I'm wondering what Ah capacity LiFePO4 battery I could replace them with? I'd go for a drop in replacement something like this: which happens to be a 20Ah unit...

    New low cost LiPo e-bike

These two bullet points gave it away for me: # Please don't discharging the battery pack below 25V(2.5V/cell), that's mean .Deep discharging may damage Li-Ion battery pack or protection circuit will disconnect discharging. Charging battery immediatelt every time it is discharged. # Please use...

Went to a VEVA meeting, got a flat tire.

Nothing will stop a nail. Buy a pump, puncture repair kit and patch the tube. I carry one of these: http://www.rei.com/product/605151 plus an el cheapo patch kit to suppliment the patches in the survival gearbox.

    Electric Lawn Tractor Conversion??

Personally, for your application I think a permanent magnet motor such as the etek is a poor choice. For any given current a series wound motor produces the greatest amount of torque, and that's what a garden tractor is about - torque. If you investigate the elec-trak's further you'll see they...

    The Haleakala Volcano test

Oh I agree, I'm just passing the time at work mainly... Might I enquire as to your production methods? I have no grand designs to make thousands or even hundreds, maybe tens at most. I'm using an iron to transfer toner from paper (one success and plenty of unsatisfactory results with plain...

    The Haleakala Volcano test

So you start out by telling us how complex it is (you needed "aerospace" engineers to build the controller), and finish up by saying it's so easy for anyone to make for cheap. Hmmmm.... Do you honestly not see the contradiction? Exactly which is it? An expensive one-off motor made of bits and...

My thoughts exactly! Especially in the wet, those cobblestones or whatever they are don't inspire much confidence.

    Attitude

Get used to it. Most bike shops are anti electric. Hell, my LBS is anti anything but the overpriced brands they flog. Having said that, not all bike shops are like that, you will find ones that are positive and welcoming.

I'm reading about too many controller failures

Actually a brushless motor is better suited to being overdriven both in terms of voltage and current than a brushed motor. Sure you can do it with a brushed motor, but you can (it's not a foregone conclusion) end up with accelerated brush wear, commutator pitting and overheating. Of course a...
